Dear Yeshivaworld,
I have been thinking about the plight of fellow yidden who are out of jobs. I am not here to judge, merely to state some observations. It is a very tough job market out there. One of the problems seems to be, “I was making 125-175K and I must get that to support the family in any new job”. We all know that with tuitions, mortgage, general expenses, it requires a lot of money. Yet, I ask, would it not be better for the person above to take a job for 70-75K just to bring in something even if it includes doing lower level work than accustomed to? I am not a businessman, but I had this idea about a job gemach. Imagine a gemach where people could get paid 12-15 dollars an hour by a business. All managers, makpid on their kavod need not apply. What is required is a can do attitude, whether it means moving boxes, photocopying, sales calls, or fixing items. Instead of giving 10K to an organization that spends 100K on printing colorful brochures, why not give a fellow yid some parnassa? These jobs could be by the day or by the week. This is not a bash the gvir letter as many are struggling to keep up with many mosdos and private requests for assistance. It is very difficult on shalom bayis etc to be unemployed, but it behooves us to support our families in any job we can instead of having zero income. Community organizations are being bombarded with requests for assitance due to the tough crisis and they simply do not have the resources to deal with giving money to all people in need. I wish all unemployed and “currently employed” hatzlacha in parnassa.
