You must mean the states. The white house is waiting for it to magically go away.

Joseph can you elaborate about your statement above regarding cases, tests, deaths, per capita etc.

Reb Eliezer, absolutely. All the European countries I listed in my previous comment, as well as additional ones for a total of mine first-world European countries, have much higher per capita COVID-19 death rates. In fact, some of those countries have *over double* US death and infection rate.

And those are all first-world countries with world-class health systems. And the United States has done much better than all of them in the fight against the novel coronovirus.

No- if you are honest with yourself you know that it really will go away. The comment was made regarding publicity and projections of doom justifying further destruction to the economy. Evidenced, for one thing, by the blatant omission of all reports that deaths are slowing, suicides are sky high, drug and physical abuse is out of control etc. The dems want this economy down til trump loses, (forget the huge story about the unemployment rate, forgetting to mention what number of them are actually furloughed with jobs waiting for them). I don’t do conspiracy theories, but people who can falsify documents to take down a serviceman to cover their own attempts to overthrow a government can very happily allow an economy to take a few extra hits if it will help this already-in-the-works cause.

What will go away? Coronavirus? Maybe it can take the flu with it. Or, maybe it will be here for centuries.

Joseph, where are you getting your information? Our infection rate is higher than all the countries you listed. You are correct that the per-capita deaths are higher in those countries, but Belgium is the only one that has doubled our rate.

Reb Eliezer, if you produce a few hundred million tests and expanded labatory capacity, the country will thank you. So far there’s been a worldwide shortage of testing capacity that’s affected every very large country in the world since March. In the last couple weeks things have improved.

    Dear Syag,
The issue is that as soon as the restrictions lifted, there have been too many instances of large gatherings. China took a risk with new year celebrations. America is being stupid. Now I see why so many support the President.

    Dear Joseph,
Everything that was done was without the federal government stepping up production, or national coordination. In your view the Feds could not have done more. The States were ineffective. The virus itself is almost meaningless. No wonder a medical opinion is not needed for public health! Therefore, I can’t even ask you the one question about our President. Here is a random one. Do you think the President feels the suffering of his fellow countrymen?

No- you either didn’t read what i wrote or you just prefer to stick with your comfort zone.
Next post- it’s amazing how someone your age can have so much confidence in his own opinions that he can call half of america stupid. I do agree that that is a trait that makes it difficult to accept a structure that is less self serving and more structured but i am no longer ignorant enough to call you stupid for it.

Reb E – what do you gain by making statements that make no sense. We get it that you don’t like him, but you can’t just decide random things apply. I don’t get the visceral responses from someone of your stature. You are too learned to be so emotionally invested in a president that you make things up.

Benny, both Belgium and Spain have over double the US death rate per capita. All the other countries I listed also have a significantly higher per capita death rate than the United States.

Comparing countries total death rates when they have huge differences in total population is meaningless. Per capita is the only valid comparison.

n0m: Do you also blame the United Nations for having failed to expand testing? It is the responsibility of the State health authorities not the feds. Furtermore, as indicated, all hands were on deck and expansion was in fact done to the maximum extent feasible. Even though that was less than desired, it was as much as physically possible.

Trump is endangering others multiple ways by not wearing a mask and not practicing social distancing. One, he is passing on his germs to others asymtomaticaly and two, more importantly, others follow him in not wearing a mqsk and not prwcticing social distanciing.

    Dear Syag,
Thank you! Honestly, your post touched on a lot of different points, I am not confident that I got any of it. Please tell me, what will go away? I do not think even 10% of Americans are gathering in crowded areas. That would be over 30 million people! Where did you get half from? I do not see any cultural divide between Republican and Democrats. The supporting Trump line? That is less than 30% percent. How many of them are being stupid about it? A lot of people support their politicians like their are superstars. Like, a ten year old roots for Yankees/Dodgers, a twenty year old for American/European cars, and a thirty year for Republicans/Democrats. It seems very silly to politicize a virus. [Most other things that we politicize, are only a little bit silly]

Someone said that if you spend 3 seconds to read each one of the 100,000 dead, it will take 83 hours and 20 min. 300,000 sec/ 3600 sec = 83 1/3 hr around 3 1/2 days reading without stopping.

    Dear Syag,
I read your post over a dozen times. My comment that you mentioned was about others, not the President. {I have/had no clue if you support Trump or are just defending him. I have no problem with either. I was poking fun of people who strongly support him for reasons that Trump clearly disagrees with. For example, Trump has the most un-convincing anti abortion stance.} The media has downplayed this virus, the complete opposite of what happened with Ebola in 2014. The theory of the Democrats holding the economy to affect the elections is like Bill Gates had a hand in creating the coronavirus. As is Trump can do nothing to win this election. He will only win if Biden messes up big time. {Which he is very very experienced at messing up on the campaign trail.} These Governors have to deal with the economic mess more than the white house ever will.

Joseph, the U.S. is catching up to Ireland and the Netherlands, both of which have death rates of about 1 per million per day, while the U.S. is at around 3 per million per day. If current trends continue, we should pass Ireland in about a week and the Netherlands in about two weeks.

And the police were ordered to push back the protesters in the morning, but for some reason they didn’t, and it was only realized when trump was going out to visit the church! So unless their prophets it wasn’t because of Trump’s photo shoot

I was looking at the federal outlines on reopening the country. There is no federal plan for testing. A lot of this thread (As well as another one.) is debating the President’s response to the pandemic. It is clear that he just wants it to go away. He is not a leader.

I fully agree with you about not ruining a good thread. The pro/anti Trump debate does not seem like an emotional one to me. It looks like a clash between focused politics versus intertwined politics. What about is more emotional than, say vaccines?

I hit it on the nose regarding the U.S. surpassing Ireland in COVID deaths per million. We’re now number 9, soon to be number 8 when we surpass the Netherlands. But we’re likely to fall in the rankings due to rapidly rising deaths in Brazil, Chile, and Peru. Both Brazil and Chile have Trump-like presidents.

And, what is all this about the U. S. doing the most testing? AS of this week, the U. S. is twelfth in tests per million population. And by far the most people that are getting tested multiple times. If anything it is under counted the amount of cases here compared to Europe. I do not think this is politics. We have mostly rural areas, and great distances between city clusters. The virus travels much faster than basic testing.

Having an indoor rally with screaming people in a state where COVID cases are rising, and where the main speaker refuses to wear a mask, is the epitome of stupid, especially since the vast majority of attendees will not wear masks. Moving a political convention from a state that insists on reasonable public health measures to a state that says “whatever,” and where COVID cases are rising, is stupid. In both cases, infecting large numbers of people who would be likely to vote for you if they survive until Election Day is stupid.

The Health Commissioner of the City of Tulsa says that the Trumpkopf should NOT hold the rally next weekend but he has no legal authority to stop it since the State has “reopened” to everything with no restrictions. The insanity of having thousands of screaming Trumpkopfers sitting on top of one another with no masks will likely trigger some spikes in the City’s rate of infections but no problem…..they will all have signed a risk waiver so they cannot sue anyone. Perhaps the only positive outcome might be a substantial surge in the infection rate in Tulsa over the next 2 weeks that might result in restrictions on future rallies. I found it laughable that Trump required a NEGATIVE virus test for those attending $250,000/person fundraiser at his NJ golf club last night but no requirements for the poor shleps rally in Tulsa with him next weekend.

YY/GHD: You should be railing more loudly against the Democrat Party supported BLM protest/riots where Democrat politicians are permitting tens and tens of thousands of people to closely congregate for long periods of times, day after day seven days a week, for the past three weeks and still going strong.

That’s far far more harmful in spreading COVID-19 than a single Trump rally in Tulsa.

YY: Many Asians countries including China as well as other countries such as Iran etc. are grossly underreporting their COVID death rate. Some intentionally and others due to an inability to count them. As such the per capita death rate is higher in many other countries than in the US, even if not yet acknowledged.

There’s a big difference between outdoor rallies where many people are wearing masks and indoor rallies where I suspect almost no one will be wearing a mask. Also, even though the Democratic Party may be supporting the protests, they’re not hosting them.

I’ve agreed with you that many countries are not reporting deaths accurately. But you’re the one who said the U.S. is doing better than the European countries that have higher death rates. My point is that we’re not doing better. With the exception of the U.K. and Sweden, they’ve flattened the curve much more than we have. Our daily death rate is two to three per million. Theirs is one or less.

    Yehudayona,

I guess you’re not part of ywn’s WhatsApp group

    It stated

Supporters of President Donald Trump will receive temperature checks, masks and hand sanitizer before entering his upcoming rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Trump’s campaign manager said Monday.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted that in addition to the above precautions, organizers will take steps to account for the mid-June heat, and bottled water will be provided to attendees.

The Trump campaign boasted Monday that it has received more than 1 million ticket requests for the rally. Seats at the venue, which has capacity for more than 19,000, are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

“If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases, if any,” said President Trump today. Huh?

Apparently masks will be optional at the Tulsa rally, and every seat will be filled. If Trump were to wear a mask and tell all the attendees to wear masks, it would still be risky. But there’s no way he’s going to wear a mask, and it’s unlikely that many of his followers will.

Yes, it is unlikely . Just like thousands of the PROTESTERS and LOOTERS who FILLED street after street in cities all over the map spraying germ filled saliva into the air we breathe in the roads we live and work.
But go ahead, shake your head with your eyes downcast and the most serious face you can muster and say, “tsk tsk, with all the effort we liberals have put in to keeping six feet apart and staying germ free, how unfortunate that the closed in arena will be filled with maskless peopl”
I would say hypocrits but perhaps fools is a better fit.
