Between all the candidates, Donovan spent the most resources to court the Jewish vote. He also had the support of many Community leaders, as a bonus. Mr. DioGuardi, for whom I worked, went without Borough Park leaders, yet he had ongoing outreach and ads, thus he came in second in terms of votes. Townsend who was a No Show, yet still a Republican, came in last. – after Paladino.

December 9, 2010 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm #716445The RovMemberOrthodox Jews, especially Chareidim, have strongly been voting Republican for many many years already.
December 9, 2010 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #716446bezalelParticipantI have been following the results in my election district over the past few years and found that unless the “community leaders” endorse a Democrat the Republicans normally win.
December 9, 2010 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm #716447charliehallParticipantHas there been a retraction and apology for this?
December 9, 2010 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm #716448charliehallParticipantIf anyone wants to know why we don’t elect Republicans here in NYC, look no further than this:
Not a single Republican was willing to buck the special interests who control the party to support the 9/11 responders. Not one. When the chips are down, you can count on the Republicans to talk the talk, but not to walk the walk.

December 10, 2010 1:50 am at 1:50 am #716450deiyezoogerMembercharlie I believe your problem with Mr. Geshtetner is not what he wrote about the holocaust, its what he writes about the damocrats.
December 10, 2010 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #716451gavra_at_workParticipantAny numbers for other jewish areas, like Kiryas Joel & Williamsburg?

After constant Republican pandering on 9/11 one might have thought that they would actually support something that would help the survivors.

You excuse his Nazi comments????
Regarding his general positions, see my comments and those of others here. He didn’t seem to have a clue:
December 10, 2010 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #716453Dave HirschParticipantFor once I actually agree with Dr. Hall; however, I am suspicious of his refutation. Mr. Gestetner seems like an arrogant and incompetent individual who needs to do some homework before he blows his horn. His comment about the heroes of the holocaust underlined his inept understanding of history and facts. Where in Jewish history (out of Israel) do we see an uprising in the levels of the Warsaw Ghetto? Additionally, it is documented everywhere. One must be blind, literally, to miss it.
I believe that Mr. Gestetner’s comments were offending to me and many in the Jewish community and he needs to apologize. I wouldn’t bother with every individual making an offensive comment, but being that he has a following in the Hasidic community with an influence on those without means to news other that the phone hotlines and newspapers he contributes to, I am bothered by it. I understand that Mr. Gestetner wants an Al Sharpton in our midst, but we say: thanks but no thanks!
As to Charlie, I really question your sincerity here. I wonder if it was a liberal, how you would react.

No I dont exuse that comment and I believe he should take it back but I dont think that comment is what you have a problem with.
