Does anyone know what they do for this? I heard its a simple procedure to stop them….

I know someone who just got this procedure done. Frequent nose bleed are usually a result of an open blood vessel in the nostril. The procedure they use is cauterizing- they melt the blood vessel closed with tiny amount of fire. Hope this helped you!

yes. I had each nostril cauterized about a year or so apart. it was soo not a big deal.. in office… in minutes.

i had it done a few weeks ago…

It was really very quick. They numbed me, so i didn’t feel anything, and once I was numbed, it took 30 seconds. My nose was slightly irritated for like 2 or 3 days, and then it was fine. 🙂

Is it done by a regular doctor or do you go to a proffesional?

My brother gets nosebleeds alot and he is thinking of doing this.

Yea and also make sure to tell your ENT to try and be a little neat with it because he had like 2 strokes of brown coming out of his nostril for several days after… pretty embarrasing beacause it looked like his nose was dirty.. =) =)

Make sure of what the underlying CAUSE is for the repeated nosebleeds. It could be the blood vessel thing, OR it could be the result of high blood pressure, or a more potentially serious condition. Don’t fool around with this. get it checked out.

Not exactly; either we use chemicals or electrical heat.

Most bleeds will stop if you pinch the fleshy part for 5 to ten minutes straight without checking in between. Lean forward and spit out the blood from your mouth. If it doesn’t stop, do it again, but first blow out your nose. This will remove the clots. If it still doesn’t stop after the next 10 minutes either seek medical care or twist a gauze into a tree and put it up the nose after blowing, and squeeze another ten minutes. Don’t remove if it stops -leave the gauze up there a few hours and then remove gently. If it feels stuck, squeeze a few drops of oil (baby oil) or H2O2 up there and then remove. OOmis is right -if this happens all the time, you have to seek a cause. I could write a whole Megilla on medical treatments, but I don’t want to bore you. Two things I like -one is this clothespin device that is made for nosebleeds. It’s great for kids because you put it on them and they can move around. They don’t have to sit still for 10 minutes. The other meant for medical professionals is the “Rhino rocket”. It’s shot into the bleeding nostril and tamponades the bleed.

Thank You Health- i have been having nose bleeds since im a kid…very frequent ones…i was asking my doctor about having the procedure done..i was just concerned if there were any dangers in doing so..like if there is an underlying reason for why they keep occuring or if its becuase “an open blood vessel in the nostril”…

I believe mine must have been open blood vessels. I used to stand over the toilet with blood pouring out of my nose. it was not a joke. afterwards, no problem, B’H!

& yes, you go to an ENT.. ears, nose, throat dr.

Rednails – An “open vessel” is a diagnosis of exclusion. In other words, you have to be worked up, eg. blood disorders, HTN; just to name a few.

popa , pour some peroxide on the blood stains, it should help lift it.

with regard to nosebleeds….in the winter when the stem is on my kids used to get a lot of nosebleeds. their pediatrician said to eat foods rich in vitamin c to keep the membranes inside the nose supple.

    its worth a try.

also, people should keep their fingers out of their noses.

i had nose bleeds when i was little- it was actually quite dangerous, because the blood coagulated while i was asleep and my parents found me passed out on the floor, so they took me for cauterization – never had a problem since then, and as a treat to distract me from the trauma, they had the doctor pierce my ears!

I can’t work you up over the net. Go to your PCP and let them

    search for a cause.

Hakol Tov – “i suffer from nose bleeds only in the winter. It is from the steam”

Besides what I posted above, a person should have a humidifier or a vaporizer in their room. This will keep the membranes moist. Depending on the size of the room is the size of humidifier you get. You might even need more than one.
