angryjewboy…
March 1, 2010 7:27 pm at 7:27 pm #684154BEST IMAParticipantUmm “nasty poster” is probably getting a real kick at the way everyones going back and forth at each other about what went on between Friday and Motzei Shabbat. Yes his posts should have been deleted much sooner than they were and he should have been blocked from posting again but at least its all been taken off now. Dont give him the satisfaction of seeing us go at each other like this. Yes it was nivul peh and nivul ideas it was horrible. Now its up to the mods to decide how to handle these kind of problems in the future. Just dont let him be the cause of everyone going at each other. Hes not worth it.
March 1, 2010 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #684155HIEParticipantWhen did the new moding system start
March 1, 2010 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm #684156smartcookieMemberBEST IMA- that’s what I was thinking. All these pple want is recognition and that pple should become all upset at them…nebach…what a poor lost soul…
March 1, 2010 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #684157HIEParticipantSmartcookie, when did the new moding system start
March 1, 2010 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #684158smartcookieMemberI would say about a week or two ago.
March 1, 2010 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #684159HIEParticipantI wasn’t here for a while so I just found out about it now
March 1, 2010 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #684160BodekParticipantOne good thing about this new system – is that alot of old/new faces are showing up in the CR for the fun.
The downside is that the posts here are sort of lacking in content and meaningful discussion.
March 1, 2010 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #684162HIEParticipantI see no new faces and no old faces, i don’t see any faces!
March 1, 2010 8:53 pm at 8:53 pm #684163HidingUnderCoverMemberVery simple system: 1. Instant posts. 2. Ocassional roaming moderators. 3. Three “report-inappropriate-post”s and the comment is hidden. Sound good?
March 1, 2010 8:58 pm at 8:58 pm #684164HIEParticipantYes, let’s mAke a vote and if 30 people say yes it’s official, sounds good?
March 1, 2010 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #684165HidingUnderCoverMemberI.
March 1, 2010 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #684166BodekParticipanthashem is everywhere: Does that mean that you can only vote “yes”?
if i vote no, does that not get counted as soon as there are 30 other yeses?
that doesn’t seem to fair to me…
and BTW, if the moderators are only occasionally scanning the posts- they might just skip over this one,and then we’ll really be in trouble!?!
March 1, 2010 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #684167HidingUnderCoverMemberIf we get 30 ‘no’s, i’m sure we can figure something out. Exactly. If moderators do stumble upon something inappropriate, they delete it right away. If not, then if three people click ‘report,’ it’s hidden until mods figure out what to do.
March 1, 2010 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #684168BEST IMAParticipantAnybody want to run this by the mods? We can vote as much as we want if theyre not with us voting isnt going to do a thing.
March 1, 2010 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #684169HidingUnderCoverMemberYeah, the new system is annoying, being that you can never just shout out to the mods to fix something or another.
March 1, 2010 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #684170BodekParticipantHow do you report inappropriate posts?
March 1, 2010 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm #684171HIEParticipantIf u say no it’s not counted as one of the 30, I hereby say yes
March 1, 2010 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm #684172HIEParticipantBodek, ?? ?? ??
March 1, 2010 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #684173BEST IMAParticipantYes what? Yes to the new system or yes to the old system?
March 2, 2010 12:07 am at 12:07 am #684174smartcookieMemberI vote to keep this system but mods should review posts withing the 1/2 hour that they were put up here.
March 2, 2010 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #684180BodekParticipantOh! thats good news 😉
so what do you really think about lakewood?
March 2, 2010 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #684181BodekParticipantanother thing, i doesn’t bother me if you don’t like lakewood – everyone can have their prefference of places they like or dislike.
but to say that you hate a whole segment of of the jewish community – is taking things a bit far…
March 2, 2010 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #684182ihatelkwdMemberi think its a realy religous town and i dont realy care to much about it. it just sounded like a good screen name cuz alot of people that use yw r from there.
March 2, 2010 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #684184BodekParticipantwhy not ihatenj or ihatejersey or iluvicecream for that matter?
March 2, 2010 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #684185ihatelkwdMembercuz saying ihatelkwd gets people mad u sad u were offended and thats what i was trying to do
March 2, 2010 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #684186BodekParticipantHashem Is Everywhere: “Bodek, ?? ?? ?? “
?? , no , nay – this is keeping me way to busy – my boss is not gonna be very happy when he finds out about this!
March 2, 2010 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #684187kapustaParticipantNew system is good, but not perfect. A report button would be nice or maybe a “hide button”, if a few people do it, the post goes “into hiding” until it passes regular modding.
March 2, 2010 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #684188volvieMember“A report button would be nice or maybe a “hide button”, if a few people do it, the post goes “into hiding” until it passes regular modding.”
I see all these wonderful ideas presented to fix the problems; when is someone going to volunteer to program all these great ideas into the system? 😉
March 2, 2010 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #684189bptParticipantI have’nt read each post, but I’m in favor of the Mods reviewing each post before it appears. I’ve had a few posts that did not make it past the mods; most I agreed with, one I did not.
Fact is, there are no shortage of blogs where you can rip anyone, and hear all sorts of loshon horah on every topic under the sun (and some that belong under a rock).
Yeshiva World should be different, as we (the Bnei and Bnos Yeshiva) are differnt. I may have an ax to grind and want to blast someone or something; the Mods give me the minute to reconsider.
March 2, 2010 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #684190RochelleMemberI like the new system. I never used to post, by the time it got through ten others have posted and it did not make sense.. The internet is not a place where you should take anything to heart. If You feel that you are too sensitive, the internet is not for you.
March 2, 2010 11:57 pm at 11:57 pm #684193Mommy613Memberi don’t understand the metzius of the new system, my posts keep dissapearing, even though my topic is new and i am not hurtful…? Do the moderators talk anymore?
March 3, 2010 1:31 am at 1:31 am #684198smartcookieMemberAnyone else realized that mods disappeared? There wasn’t even one post from the mods since those crazy posts started coming up.
Is anyone listening to our requests at all?
YES
March 3, 2010 1:33 am at 1:33 am #684199HIEParticipantYup, I think the mods abandoned us
March 3, 2010 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm #684201BEST IMAParticipantlkwdboy99 do what?? Its not in our hands to do anything about it!! The mods have to change the system and nobody seems to know where the mods went
March 3, 2010 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #684203aries2756ParticipantThis is silly, of course it is moderated and of course the moderators read everyone’s suggestions and will decide which one works best here and which ones they can program in.
In the mean time, if anyone tries to be rude, nasty or generally post anything against the rules and guidelines, please just choose to ignore it and not comment. It is no fun if there is no response to the post so eventually that person will stop doing the nasty or just go away. The MODS will delete it when they see it.
Sounds quite reasonable to me
March 11, 2010 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #684204YW Moderator-80MemberOkay
There never was a new moderating system. We just completed (mostly) installing new servers and re-doing the software.
During this time the Moderation Panel was inoperative and it was necessary to allow posts to appear before being approved.
There were many improvements on our end.
On your end you will notice 3 changes:
1. No more downtime
2. Faster loading
3. When you post you will see your post immediately, so that you can edit it. However the post will not appear on anyone else’s computer until it is moderated and approved. You can verify this by logging out. You will no longer see your post(unless it was already approved.)
We apologize for some of the ugliness that appeared while the Moderation Panel was down.
March 12, 2010 7:42 am at 7:42 am #684206YW Moderator-80MemberThe final bug removal and polishing off of the new software might lead to occasional temporary slowdowns over the next few months.
March 12, 2010 9:22 am at 9:22 am #684207smartcookieMemberThank you mod!
Major renovations going on at YW!! We’re happy to hear!!
March 12, 2010 12:04 pm at 12:04 pm #684209I can only tryMember“When you post you will see your post immediately, so that you can edit it. However the post will not appear on anyone else’s computer until it is moderated and approved.“
Great idea!
Now I won’t have to worry about tpyos anymore.
?
(seriously, I do think it’s a great idea. thank you.)
March 12, 2010 12:44 pm at 12:44 pm #684210volvieMemberMaybe allow a greater edit time now that you can edit it before anyone else sees it?
It seems you have only a couple minutes after posting it, to still edit it.
March 12, 2010 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm #684211YW Moderator-80MemberI believe you have 5 minutes
March 12, 2010 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #684212volvieMemberMod80 – I was suggesting to perhaps increase the time allowed to edit. Especially since you can now edit it before it goes live.
March 12, 2010 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm #684213YW Moderator-80MemberI understood you.
I dont think we can do that
I’ll check
March 12, 2010 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm #684214volvieMemberThank You.
Good Shabbos
March 12, 2010 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #684215MetziutMemberGreat changes, this makes YWN much easier to use.
March 12, 2010 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm #684216YW Moderator-99MemberVolvie – it’s a catch 22
There are many times (especially for certain posters) that we don’t want to approve a post while it is still editable for obvious reasons. We approve what we see not what you may change it to. So we wont click approve on those posts until after the edit window passes. However, the longer that is the longer we can’t approve it for. While, yes, there are times that it’s a lot longer then 5 min it takes to get the post up, there are plenty times that it’s much less then 5 min.
So – the longer the edit window is – the longer it’ll take to get posts approved.
(DO I make any sense to you? That was written very poorly)
March 12, 2010 10:11 pm at 10:11 pm #684217volvieMemberMod99 – Makes sense, and thanks for the explanation. Since you already allow editing within 5 minutes, even if the post was approved earlier than the end of the edit time, the concerns you stated above would apply in that timeframe.
I suppose you could “test” how things work out by increasing it slightly, to say 15 or 30 minutes, and see if it is abused. If so, you can revert; if not its great. Just a suggestion.
BTW, during the several weeks posts were going up immediately unmoderated, I believe there was only one abuser. The benefit of that system was that conversations were much easier. Obviously even with only one abuser you still need to rectify the situation, but with proper vigilance perhaps you could be a bit lenient and see if the situation allows such leniency to continue.
Good Shabbos
March 12, 2010 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm #684218YW Moderator-99MemberWe did – it used to be 1 minute – now it’s five.
While there was “only” 1 abuser (which is 1 too many), there many posts from many more people that got deleted after they went up. Even if someone isn’t “abusing” the system, many people posts things that are inappropriate that we don’t want appearing.
May 10, 2010 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #684219Orthodox IndependentMemberDifferent idea:
Add a preview function which would allow one to edit their post as much as they like before actually submitting the post for moderation.
If you want to allow a window for editing even after a post is actually submitted, then just make it so that mods will not be able to actually approve any post before that window has expired.
