i have a son in high school (who struggles academically) who is not happy to the point where he is barely functioning as a person never mind as a student or part of a school.
he says he wants something not as strict (i.e. no white shirt required) and he needs a VERY patient and understanding hanhala. I’m willing to consider ANYTHING in the USA..
any suggestions?

November 22, 2013 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #988276DaMosheParticipantI’d suggest Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway. They do require a white shirt, but the Hanhala is extremely patient, and they work with every student to bring out their full potential. R’ Bender is second to none!

does anyone have info on Richmond, VA, or Rochester, NY?
November 22, 2013 3:38 pm at 3:38 pm #988278Trust 789Membertrak443: I don’t have a suggestion for a school to send him to, however, I would suggest that you give him something outside of school that he can enjoy. Perhaps lessons to learn an instrument. Or learn karate. Or anything that is kosher and will give him pleasure.
See what you can do to get him functioning as a person.

November 22, 2013 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #988280PBTMemberGet him into a Chofetz Chaim yeshiva, such as Missouri Torah Institute in St. Louis, where my son goes. They literally saved his Yiddishkeit, and every official photo with him in it shows him in some type of varied color shirt. He’s made some lasting friendships there with his Roshei Yeshiva, his rebbeim, and his fellow classmates.

I also would look into a small place in/near lakewood that services boys like yours but I will have to remember the name first. Work hard to find a place that wants students who are academically weak, not spiritually weak. Unfortunately most places for the weak student have many boys who are not doing well spiritually at all. The one’s mentioned above do make the distinction in their acceptance process.

November 22, 2013 4:55 pm at 4:55 pm #988283imamomMemberFasman Yeshiva High School, Skokie, suburb of Chicago. Small school, WARM and understanding, very savvy hanhala. Diverse student body. Extracurriculars….and lots more.
November 22, 2013 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #988285winny1ParticipantTry TIUNY the Chofetz Chaim branch in Rochester. Had great experiance with son and Rabbi Davidowitz is easy on the boys as long as they behave properly.
