I’m a yeshiva bachur looking to start working towards a college degree. I was in a small Yeshiva in Lakewood for a few years but it didn’t have any accreditation. Does anyone know of any programs (i.e. Yeshivas) that I could join or possibly just sign up for that could get me a BTL using my previous years in yeshiva? I’m interested in going into social working.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks you!

To clarify: I wasn’t looking into cheating the system in any way. I’m looking for a program that could help me get a BTL (besides for learning in BMG for 4 years).

I have heard around from some people that depending on where you end up, you could join together your previous years regardless of the fact that they were unaccredited.

I’m trying to figure out if anyone else has any experience that they might be able to offer me some viable information.

    Thanks you!

Is there someone in BMG you can talk to about it? I think part of the idea with the BTL is that you don’t necessarily need (many) other courses to get it and that it’s awarded by the yeshiva. (I know someone who is going to Harvard Law with only a BTL from his yeshiva- super rare these days especially, but it does seem to happen.)

For social work, you will probably need to take prereqs before applying/attending, no matter how you get the BTL- check with the grad programs you apply to to find out which.

Basically what you are trying to do is get college credits for prior experience. You may have to take an exam to verify that you have the knowledge. You can also take exams such as CLEP and be awarded credits. When you earn enough credits you get the degree. I think Thomas Edison State College does that.

If you aspire to be a licensed (by the government) social workers, a BTL isn’t all that useful, and might be worthless. What you probably want is an bachelors degree in social work, meaning you want to find a school giving such a degree that gives you credits for yeshiva study. A BTL won’t meet the requirements for licensing as they require specific courses. You need to check the licensing rules in the state you want to work in, and also check the website of the National Council on Social Work Education. There are “distance education” programs for both a bachelors and masters in social work.
