So, last night I dreamt that I was standing outside during the daytime. And I looked up into the sky and saw the sun. It wasn’t a strong, powerful sun but just a small ball of light. Then looking to the right, I saw two big balls in te sky. One was a yellow moon and the other looked like something you would see on Google Earth (when you zoom out all the way) and I knew it was Mars. And I showed it to a few people and they were amazed.
That was my dream. Can you explain it? I can’t!
Do you have any weird or funny dreams?

July 24, 2012 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #1094809yeshivishsocratesMemberThe gemmorah in brachos 55 says that dream interpretation follows the interpretation of the interpreter, so, i say that this dream means that you will have much hatzlacha in all your righteous endeavours.

July 24, 2012 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm #1094811zahavasdadParticipantIt wasnt Mars that you saw, but Venus. You cant see Mars during the Day as its not bright enough, BUT you can see Venus during the day , its tough and you have to know where to look but its there
July 24, 2012 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #1094812SayIDidIt™Participantzahavasdad, in dreams, you sometimes “know” what something is even if you never saw it before. And I “knew” it was Mars. And the moon you can’t see in middle of the day like the way I saw it. Its a dream and anything is possible!

The Gemara in Brachos says there is always one part of dreams which is false
July 24, 2012 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #1094816Sam2ParticipantYeshivishsocrates: That’s not what that Gemara means. Dreams have actual meaning, it’s not that you say anything random but good about any random dream and that’s what the dream means. The point is that most dreams have several possible interpretations and in such a case there is more of a chance that the interpretation that you say it means will come about. Otherwise, what is the point of the large amount of Gemara in that Perek telling us what certain things mean. Wouldn’t Yosef Hatzadik be a Shofech Damim for subjecting Egypt to famine? Why does the Gemara say that there were people who were experts at interpreting dreams? The point is that the dream has a limited number of meanings. In Paroh’s case it was just one. And the interpretation that you give, so long as it’s one of those meanings, is the one that will come about.
July 24, 2012 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #1094817yeshivishsocratesMemberIm not sure about this one, the gem tells the story about how Abaye and Rava visit the same interpreter with the same dreams, one pays and is prosperous and Rava didnt pay and suffered tragedy. When they discovered what was going on, they asked the dream interpreter to explain and he gave my above explanation…..
He was dealt with in one of my favourite ways in all of gemmorah!
July 24, 2012 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #1094818ohr chodeshMemberIt means you spend too much time on Google Earth.
July 24, 2012 4:25 pm at 4:25 pm #1094819Sam2ParticipantYeshivish: Right, the interpreter knew the two possible explanations and gave the nice ones to the paying customer. (And they didn’t ask him, Rava found it written in his notebook.) If any explanation would always work then a) this concept would be public knowledge, which it clearly wasn’t because Rava apparently didn’t know it until he found the book and b) there would be no reason for a professional interpreter to have a job.

July 24, 2012 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #1094821SayIDidIt™Participantohr chodesh: I knew someone was going to say that! Or that I watch too many movies! But the last time I was on GEarth was like two years ago. I only gave it as an example because that is the only way I can describe it. And movies, I stopped watching a couple months ago and I didn’t watch those types of movies anyways.
Still waiting for a good interpretation and for other’s weird dreams!

July 24, 2012 10:24 pm at 10:24 pm #1094822WIYMemberIt is likely tied to things you saw or thought about during the day. Most dreams mean NOTHING AT ALL.
July 24, 2012 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm #1094823ChortkovParticipantThere was a story last year in Yeshiva Gedolah [Gateshead]:
A bochur had a dream that R’ Leibish {phevorsk} and gave him a rope, telling him to go up to the attic and tie it around a Dibbuk hiding there. He also told him to take two boys with him. In his dream, he went up with the rope and tied up the Dibbuk.
That night, the two boys who R’ Leibish told him to take with him found him lying in bed, still and unmoving. He was rushed to hospital, and was very close to dying for a few days, until after Tisha Be’av.
He went to R’ Leibish, who told him to leave the yeshiva. He went back in to fetch his stuff, where he promptly collapsed and fainted.
Only a week later, R’ Avrohom Gurwicz, Rosh Yeshiva of Gateshead, went to visit R’ Leibish.
[Story heard from 3 different boys in Gateshead Yeshiva at the time]
–> Fact: The boy was almost dead and the whole yeshiva almost had to take tablets on Tisha Be’av because of whatever he was diagnosed with.
–> Fact 2: He left yeshiva then.
–> Fact 3: The Rosh Yeshiva went to visit R’ Leibish {Although he gave a shiur bein hazmanim in Antwerp}
Did the rest really happen? Dunno. Will never know. But it is a good story anyway!!!
July 24, 2012 10:51 pm at 10:51 pm #1094824SayIDidIt™ParticipantWIY, I know that’s what they always say. But I can’t think of a single thing that would make me dream up such a weird dream!

I asked Reb Avrohom Gurwicz shlit”a about it, and he chuckled and said that he didn’t speak about that at all with R’ Leibish.
