Anytime YWN quotes a speech given by Prime Minister Netanyahu, or really any other secular Jew, there is usually at least one comment (if not more) “he didn’t mention G-d! Obviously this is the problem with Israel today, they attribute success to man and not G-d.”
These comments always bother me for two reasons: 1) Granted that there is a virtue to thanking G-d in publiv, but how do you know they don’t thank or attribute success to G-d? Maybe they do so privately? Why do you assume a secular Jew completey disregards the existence of G-d?
2) Even if you’re right, who cares? We all know they are secular, what purpose is there to point out, “by the way, they didn’t mention G-d in public! He’s so krum! Let’s blame all of Klal Yisroel’s tzaras on him!” Is this not blatant loshon hara? What is the goal of such comments?
If you ask me, the real problem with Klal Yisroel, is the same problem that sent is into galus in the first place. Secular Jews are always looking at the faults of religious Jews (especially Chareidim). Religous Jews are always looking at the faults of the Secular Jews. The Modern Orthodox world always finds faults in the Yeshivish world. The Yeshivish World always finds faults in the Modern Orthodox world. It’s all ridiculous. Maybe we should stop looking at the negatives of our fellow Jews who have different hashkafos, maybe we should start looking at the positives. May G-d help us in this endeavor.
