Kaff’s( on J)
Elzee’s (on Coney Island)
Shop Smart
January 12, 2011 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #728789Sender AvMemberI’m not in NY or anywhere in the north but was there this summer. I would have to say Pomegranate was great. In the Five Towns at I think it was Supersol? or Gourmet Glatt? I think Supersol, they were really nice and gave us free sample of Sable fish $$$$$ in the fish department. If anyone is down south Publix grocery chains are the most courteous( the fact that employees are part owners may have something to do with that).

January 13, 2011 4:52 am at 4:52 am #728799commonsenseParticipantEnglish Basics, very pleasant to shop and a good return policy. Schwartz’s shoes, they have decent prices so they have very long lines but they are super patient and give you as much time as you need with no pressure. Very mentchlach.
January 13, 2011 5:04 am at 5:04 am #728800real-briskerMemberAll Home Depots, the workers are very informed about all their products. They are very helpful!
January 13, 2011 5:09 am at 5:09 am #728801OfcourseMemberFlohrs, definitely! I asked the boss for a price on an item. He told me the price. I told him I saw it online for less. He actually, told me, with a smile, that the price I saw online was amazing and that I should buy it online (possibly it’s a closeout). I know the boss to be a very sincere guy, so it doesnt surprise me. He wasnt saying it in an angry or nasty way at all!

the manager’s always are patient and try to please the customers.
The cashiers must be trained – if there is a problem, call the
manger. I go there a few times a week for years – have never
seen an argument.

A family run business (of French Jews) with delicious products and a pleasant, accommodating disposition.
One of their freshly baked baguettes with butter and a cafe hafuch is the best breakfast in the world.

January 13, 2011 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #728817m12345MemberShoes at Park on 18th Ave and 57th has the most PATIENT employees ever. They’ll pull as many shoes as your daughter asks and not make faces when she finally agrees that the first ones were best.

January 13, 2011 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #728819ProfessionalMembermany 13th avenue places will NOT make it here. refuse to exchange, take back. Got an expensive gift from one of the fancy home and kitchen gadgets stores, went back with it unopened, she looked up and knew the name and number of purchaser, and after all verification she said she wont exchange or anything else. I explained I had no use for it. her CS made me clear I will never walk into that store again. Love NYC stores, where exchange/ returns are hassle free. I dont belive in abusing a return policy, but I do appreciate good customer service policy, hard to find in Brooklyn. If you had a different experience, please share!
January 14, 2011 3:46 am at 3:46 am #728820s2021Memberin lakewood shoprite one cashier will ask u how u can in good concience spend so much on moisturizer and shampoo. and tell u to try wallmart. and xplain to u her retirement plan. and examine ur coupons before handing them to u so she can keep the non kosher ones. its always entertaining…
January 14, 2011 5:27 am at 5:27 am #728821eclipseMemberToday I was in a store…I asked HOW fresh a certain item was…he said no guarantees. He said there are more important things in life to worry about…(than being straight with a customer?)
January 16, 2011 9:36 am at 9:36 am #728822commonsenseParticipantI would venture to say that not everyone has the same considerations as to what makes a store praiseworthy. I know there is one store listed here that I absolutely disagree with as I shop there all the time and find it a very unpleasant experience.
Another store that I like is Goldberg’s grocery in Boro Park. one big thing they do that many others do not is hire frum yidden. I like that the money I am spending is going to frum familes as opposed to many other stores where you find one maybe 2 frum people and the rest are non jewish workers who do not speak English.

1. Exremely helpful satff
2. Quick checkout
3. A lot of very unusual products
5. All their products have great prices, many with hechsharim
6. Because many of their products ate off brands ( which is
why their prices are so low) tthe hechsharim can also
be not well known. However, at the entrance of
their stores they have a brochure listing every
hechsher they carry, who is behind it and the phone number
to call for information.

Oh yes, Sac, indeed it is. Tagline: “Yismach Yisroel – we’re Cholov Yisroel!”
I still can’t talk about that place without laughing, and I’ve been here many years already…
