What about uncomon names?
Interestingly enough, I know a family named Ungarisher of Polish descent.
And the name POLLAK happens to be common amongst Hungarians, funny isnt it?

January 22, 2009 1:52 am at 1:52 am #828961havesomeseichelMemberJoseph- my point exactly! If there are two who admit it, then I bet we can find people who do not use it as their sn… But really, Jews are big in the doctor/lawyer professions…..
January 22, 2009 3:22 am at 3:22 am #828962squeakParticipantgreat! I’ll do the copy/paste labor in the morgen.
January 22, 2009 3:30 am at 3:30 am #828963mdlevineMemberthe “md” in mdlevine has nothing to do with the medical profession

February 2, 2009 4:45 am at 4:45 am #828972YW Moderator-42ModeratorSolomon is a fairly common last name.
February 2, 2009 4:48 am at 4:48 am #828973JosephParticipantI think Moderator is a very common last name around here.
February 2, 2009 4:51 am at 4:51 am #828974YW Moderator-42ModeratorIs it a last name, or just the prefix of the last name?
February 2, 2009 4:55 am at 4:55 am #828975JosephParticipantThat is asking too much personal info.
Against the rules, sorry.
February 2, 2009 4:56 am at 4:56 am #828976YW Moderator-42ModeratorLooking through my cell phone contact list I think Friedman is the most common last name. I have a lot of those in my phone book, some with the same first name so I have to add their location, age, or some other identifying thing to the name to differentiate.
February 2, 2009 4:57 am at 4:57 am #828977YW Moderator-42ModeratorI think the most common last name in my phone book used to be “Cell”.
February 2, 2009 4:57 am at 4:57 am #828978moish01Memberoh you know both dovid friedmans too? what a small world!
😉
February 2, 2009 4:58 am at 4:58 am #828979asdfghjklParticipantmod42: seriously cell????

February 2, 2009 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #828987Itzik_sMemberBS”D
I hope neither of those Moishe Friedmans resides in Vienna and has the (very inappropriate) second name of Aryeh because said gentleman is in cherem!!
We frum Yidden seem to be so apt at choosing the same first names, regardless of our particular community and the reason for those names, that all of my phone book entries are last name first as with two exceptions I have more than 2 people with each first name represented in my book (and I keep my phone book clean and small). Not all of the duplicate names are the typical ones associated with any particular community.
February 2, 2009 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #828988moish01Memberwell i don’t reside in vienna, so that’s one down
February 2, 2009 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #828989NobodyMemberThe most common forenames I know of are Hey! and Howyadoin?
November 21, 2011 6:31 am at 6:31 am #828990ronrsrMembersung to the tune of “76 Trombones” from The Music Man by Meredith Wilson. Lyrics parodized by Allan Sherman:
“Seventy-six Sol Cohens in the country club,
And a hundred and ten nice men named Levine!
And there’s more than a thousand Finks
Who parade around the links-
It’s a sight that really must be seen…”
November 21, 2011 6:42 am at 6:42 am #828991ronrsrMemberalso from Allan Sherman, from the song, “Shake Hands with Your Uncle Max, My Boy,” the list of all the friends and relatives on Ocean Parkway:
“
Meet..
Merowitz, Berowitz, Handelman, Schandelman
Sperber and Gerber and Steiner and Stone
Boskowitz, Lubowitz, Aaronson, Baronson,
Kleinman and Feinman and Freidman and Cohen.”
“Smallowitz, Wallowitz, Tidelbaum, Mandelbaum
Levin, Levinsky, Levine and Levi
Brumburger, Schlumburger, Minkus and Pinkus
And Stein with an “e-i” and Styne with a “y” “
