    I will be in the great smoky mountains national park. I am looking for minyan on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be staying in pigeon forge, TN.
    Is any one else going that we can make a minyan?

    Are there a lot of other frum yidden who are big Dolly Parton fans?? Strange place to look for a minyan on chol hamoed but you never know these days.

    Find a Chabad center in the area, and they will find a minyan for you – or make one, if they cannot find one.

    Huju: Its about an hour drive from Dollywood to Knoxville, the nearest city with a chabad center.

    Post on Godaven, I always had luck there, in fact when I was in Gatlinburg, we posted on Godaven and had 20 plus people at the minyan for the entire week we were there.
    When I was at Lake Powell in 2020 the parking lot of Horseshoe Bend looked like Shomer Shabbos with 4 pop up minyanim for mincha -mariv.

    @huju
    , unless you are in a major tourist or business center Chabad does not have minyanim except for shabbos and even that is iffy in sometimes, I once prearranged a minyan for shabbos with shalich, we were 6, shalich and his family were 3 and one local.

    CS is correct…..however, you are more likely to find sufficient numbers of frum tourists during the summer months. Chol hamoed travel distances tend to be limited unless you are in South Florida or Arizona this time of year.

    I sense that Gadolha and Common Saychel have doubts about Chabad’s readiness to raise a minyan. And yet Common S tells us Chabad did help him/her raise a minyan.

    There are lots of ways to find a minyan. Chabad is not the only way, but it is a good way.

    Seriously. I believe that the Sheraton in Gatlinburg is owned by a shomer shabbos yid and pre-covid they used to run a Pesach program every year with some of the more wealthy Jews of Atlanta. NCSY used to run a program there (not on Pesach) every year and I believe that there is a Sefer Torah on premises. Call up the OU and ask for the contact.

    Huju: Alternatively, you can invite nine of your BFFs to travel with you. It is not unknown that chashuvah rabbonim and askanim arranged for such “traveling companions” to assure they wouldn’t have to daven b’yachid.

    huju,

    He did not tell us that – he said that he posted on godaven. From my personal experiences with far-flung Chabad houses, making a daily minyan is not one of their biggest priorities. I’m sure the shaliach will try to help if requested, but you should ask what the chances are of success.

    I was in the Smokies a couple of summers ago on the NC side of the park and was pleasantly surprised to encounter more than one other frum family during our stay. I had never seen other frum people there before on previous trips. Chol Hamoed is probably a bit tougher to swing given the distance from frum communities (Atlanta is probably the closest and is several hours away).

    @Reb Shlomo, the Gatlinburg retreat was organized by Al Thomas of Memphis, [ the hotel owner] and this had nothing to do with the OU, the hotel was sold and the retreat ended in the early 2000s. Having been there I can tell you for a fact that there is no sefer torah there, you either need to bring your own or borrow from Chabad in Knoxville or Chattanoga or one of the shuls in Atlanta.

    Avram in MD is correct and making a daily minyan is not biggest priority for them [given all the other things they deal with], in my case I called a few weeks before and rov minyan was my family, most of the shluchim are very upfront that there is no minyan, if you have a yartzite and are in some far flung place and need to say kaddish they will try the best to find 8 other jews somewhere but don’t count on it.
