(1st post: Howdy!) I’ll start out with 4 things that don’t mean anything but press on my mind when I have something urgent to do like clean for Pesach when I’d rather be reading CR stuff:

Why do people call a kipa sruga a “knitted yarmulke?” It’s done by crochet! One hook only. Knitting uses a minimum of 2 needles. Sheesh!

“Parve milk” – that’s like “military intelligence” (shades of the 60’s?) or “jumbo shrimp” (oops – a non-kosher example!!!) What’s the expression they call this type of juxtaposition?

“Diet sugar” – Definition: saccharin (pink packet), aspartame (blue packet), or sucralose (yellow packet) which is added to your coffee when served with a big piece of cake for dessert.

“ATM machine” – there’s a word for this when you say the word that one of the initials stands for but I can’t remember this one, either.

    Got some more?

You’re thinking recursive acronym, but I think it’s really RAS syndrome.

Maybe they are native Hebrew speakers. The Hebrew phrase for crochet literally means “knitting with one needle.”

    Oxymoron.

    Redundancy.

    Instant coffee: Just add water!

OneOfMany must work for the Department of Redundancy Department.

You could also add unsweetened sweetener.

Most of you have probably heard about, or seen, that a few years ago they started making ‘bedikas chametz kits’ that include 10 little pieces of bread to put around the house. What a wonderful idea, we all know how difficult it is to make those pieces ourselves! 😉

Well now in the constant effort to make Pesach a bit easier, we introduce the ‘instant salt water’ kit. – It’s a zip-lock bag of salt, – just add water. 😉

-Oh, and Haifagirl, just because ‘JustHavingFun’ forgot a word, is no reason to call him an ‘oxymoron’!!! 😉

Let’s go into business. I also know where we can get a supply of instant mud.

I’ll take that as a compliment ;-> except I’m not a “him” LOL

PS-how do you do the italics thing? italic didn’t seem to work.

Mass exodus, but everyone uses it anyway.

This is a great article from Newsweek that I read a few years back on this topic 😉

    So you’re not alone lol.

JustHavingFun: Oh yes. Special Agent in Charge of Repetitive Redundancy and Over-Exaggeration. (But how did you find out? My branch is highly classified!)

P.S. Put “em” instead of “i” for italics. Other markup is shown at the bottom of the post box.

LOL. Reminds me of that stoner dude on that show who is obsessed with dehydrating all different kinds of fruits and vegetables, and he’s like “man, we should try water balloons!”

Knitting and crochet are collectively called knitting because they both use yarn.

rebyidd- they are? Do you knit or crochet? What craft group are YOU part of! 🙂

where i come from crochet is not called knitting. Maybe they should both be called yarning? Oh and hookrug also uses yarn and a hook, but it aint either knitting. (in case there’s any doubt, this is being said in jest with a huge grin on my face).

I have some relatives who do them both. Crocheting is very different from knitting, but they are both called knitting because they produce clothing directly from yarn instead of weaving, cutting and sewing. It is acceptable to call crochet knitting because it is really a method of making things out of yarn because it’s easier to spell and pronounce and most men can’t tell the difference with a finished product.

I did not make that up and I didn’t say it’s proper English. And I don’t crochet really. I just know how to crochet a lumpy unrecognizable object.
