    Which is worse for you?

I personally am more scared of large bugs than mice. See, mice are animals, and they tend to run and hide right away. So you don’t see them for very long. Also, they are easy to catch in traps. (Although I don’t know what you do with them afterwards. Do you let them go? I probably shouldn’t ask.)

In my opinion, large bugs are far more disgusting. Firstly, they are stupid and stay where they are, so I can’t forget about them. Alternatively, they escape by the time someone comes to help me. Secondly, they have to be stepped on, which I cannot bring myself to do. Thirdly, they have tons of children. Fourthly, they are a sign of dirt in the house, unlike mice which tend to come from outside and are easy to get rid of.

Both mice and large bugs are a blessing from Hashem. For me, they are a powerful incentive for me to keep the house spotlessly clean, so that I should never ever see another one again IYH.

Edit: Not based on at home experience!

As a proud man who has often jumped on top of a table, chair or couch while screaming and shaking like a little girl upon seeing a roach, only to have my 75-year old neighbor or 11-year old daughter of other neighbors come to rescue me, I vote “bugs”.

    Lifelong insect phobia, here.

I take mice over bugs any day.

In fact, there are mice in mien hoiz, but no bugs. I think the mice must be scaring away the bugs. http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/mice-in-mein-hoiz

Mice and Rats Carry diseases, The Black Plague was caused by a Flea that lived on Rats and killed 40% of the Worlds populaion in the Justinian Plague and 75% of the European population in 15th Century

Don’t ever, ever, ever step on a cockroach. If it’s a she, stepping on it will release the eggs and give you more cockroaches. The best thing to do is squirt it with soapy water (plain water evaporates too quickly)then when it does, scoop it up and flush it.

That’s ok. My mice are clean; they don’t have fleas.

haifa- Firstly, I’d like to point out that your name isn’t capitalized, which will be an unpleasant stain on your otherwise spotless grammer record. Forever.

anyway, soapy water doesnt actually do anything to them except for momentarily suffocating them. as soon as you turn around, itll be back under the cabinet. get a spray can of k-300 and go vild.

    haifagirl’s solution is the best.

All bugs instantly die from water with a little bit of soap. Roaches can be a bit more problematic though (they can survive being drowned for hours, being put in an oven, or a nuclear bomb).

But with ants and the like, a tiny little bit of soap in a lot of water instantly kills them all. And the best part is soap isn’t nearly as toxic to children and pets as real pest control stuff is.

    @Toi – I keep noticing the same about haifagirl’s name. 🙂

As for K300 – that stuff makes me SO sick. I really just cannot stand the smell of it. As soon as I use it, I literally start vomiting uncontrollably.

Maybe that means I am actually vermin myself…. 🙂

Frummy and Gatesheader, I dunno. In my family gender roles are very clear when it comes to these things.

    PBA: Baruch shekivanti

Haifagirl: How not pleasant to think about that.

    Oneofmany: Unusual.

Why choose? They are both absolutely revolting. Anything tiny that can run faster than I, makes me nauseous. I am sure Hashem had a good purpose in mind for creating vermin (Dovid Hamelech and the spider…), but honestly, both roaches AND mice – I can do without.

Here’s one for unusual – when I was a little kid, if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said, “forensic entomologist.” 😛

without a doubt large bugs are worse for me then adorable mice! If you dont have in mind the black plauge with rats and you take a second to look at mice, they would be pretty fun to have as a pet!

Bugs are nasty. But reaches are the worst. What really creeps me out is when you kill a bug and then pick it up with a tissue and feel its body.UGH!

    big bugs are worse. Definitely.

Purplicious- my father too! Bugs he doesnt mind killing and they dont bother him. But when we had a mouse, he wouldnt touch that mousetrap with a 10 foot pole!

Oom- when i was a kid, i didnt know what either of those words meant 🙂

wiy- ugh ugh ugh. That’s the part that creeps me out, feeling the body. I can kill or catch a bug, but someone else has to dispose of it. (shivers) Or supply me with a thick pile of tissues.

i used to play with some kinds of bugs. Snails, worms, caterpillars, millipedes, pillbugs… Now i cant imagine how i enjoyed that!

If mice are so good at carrying disease, why don’t we have them carry all our diseases somewhere far away, like Mars? If anyone knows any mice, or anybody at NASA, please send their info to my email (apparently even a made-up email gets censored by the mods :P).

    WIY +1!!

The only consolation is, that happens right before it’s getting flushed (and you better believe I make sure it goes down with the tissue).

The first time I ever saw stink bugs was when we were visiting friends in another city, and when I discovered that I’d brought one home in a suitcase I was creeped out for days.

(I’m too old to be a girl – can I still participate in this thread??)

We once had a mouse after some construction that was being done next door to us, and the mouse was caught and disposed of. I felt awful for a LONG time after seeing that sight, but I could not bring myself to touch and remove it. I had to scream for my son to come with gloves and a body bag. YUCK, EEEEWWWWWWW, and ICK GEFERLACH!

    Hg,

You can change the way your sn shows up. This doesn’t have to be a permanent stain, requiring. flimsy excuses. 🙂

Funny you ask, because while people are terrified of mice, bugs are a lot more atrocious to me. They don’t just pop out in a surprise and are gone a second later after scaring you to death, like mice do.

Roaches, especially humongous water bugs, sit on your walls with Chutzpah and crawl around so nauseatingly. Ugh!

As for spraying them, my best insect spray is pure windex. Nothing works better than drowning them in good ol’ windex.

Mice- Jump on nearest surface, shriek a little for the fun of it, come down when nearest male says its gone.

    Bugs- Move Out.

I have a lot of these. But I learned to flush them whole, otherwise they smell. But the smell isn’t so bad, so I don’t know why they call them stink bugs.
