As we know from famous author Norman Cousins(father of famous Sarah Shapiro),a person can “laugh” their way to better health.

    Anybody here ever try that?

Patients with illnesses even terminal ones have a much better survival rate if they are in a happy and relaxed state and frame of mind. Those with loved ones around them have been found to have the mental strength to fight their ailment. So laughter really is the best medicine!

Conversely, chazal say “tzchok v’kalus rosh motzi’in es ha’adam min ha’olam”. There is a world of a difference between tzchok or kalus rosh which is making fun, and laughter.

Having learnt laughter therapy and led some groups, let me tell you the benefits of laughing:

    The Benefits of Laughter

    LAUGHTER:

? Will open, a magic bubble from within.

? Will help protect our health and may help prevent illness.

    ? Is great aerobic exercise.

? Creates a lighter attitude and greater ability to cope with challenges in our lives.

? Allows people to feel free.

? Increases creativity, imagination, martial harmony, self-confidence, and interpersonal relationships.

? Is a massage for the muscles of your face and brings a twinkle to your eyes.

? Helps to create balance, harmony, openness, and closeness to others.

? Helps change your outlook on life situations, releases stress, and helps to improve quality of life.

? Gives place for your inner self to be happy and grow.

? Adds more joy, playfulness, and an optimistic attitude to your life.

? Will help you worry less – puts anxiety on a backburner.

? Breaks down barriers and beliefs and increases trust between people.

? Will help strengthen all our systems: immune, circulatory, respiratory, muscular, neurological, digestion, and skin.

? Will help to increase the level and flow of oxygen in our blood and thus increases the lung capacity. Improved breathing and ample oxygen supply is the key to improved health, better fitness, muscle endurance, boosting immune system, increasing stamina, and improved metabolism.

? Boosts the production of, and raises the level of serotonin in our blood, a natural anti-depressant.

? Is internal jogging for all the organs of the digestive system to improve digestion.

? Helps improve sleep pattern, and reduce snoring as laughter is good for the muscles of the soft palate and throat too.

? Can cause significant improvement in blood pressure and help to lower blood sugar levels.

? Is a natural pain killer. Laughter decreases muscle spasms, increases the release of endorphins, and epinephrine, reduces migraine headaches,

? Is an internal massage to all internal organs.

? Is a great massage for your diaphragm which releases pent up emotions.

? is recommended and worthwhile to strengthen and develop your laughter reflex for at least 15 minutes a day to enjoy all these benefits.

? 3 minutes of laughter equals 10 minutes of working out on a rowing machine or treadmill at the gym. In an hour of laughter you can burn 500 calories, in 1 minute you can burn 10 calories, and in half an hour you can burn 250 calories.
