Sen John McCain (R.-Ariz) said that he told Libyan Leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi last month that “it would be a grave mistake to give” convicted terrorist Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi “a hero’s welcome” on his return to Libya.
McCain visited Libya last month, where he tweeted, “Late evening with Col. Qadhafi at his ‘ranch’ in Libya – interesting meeting with an interesting man.”
Despite McCain’s advice, Megrahi received a hero’s welcome upon his return to Libya.
McCain, appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” also compared Gaddafi, who he tweeted during his visit, favorably to Iranian Prime Minister Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, saying that “Gaddafi and his regime, which is very dictatorial and totalitarian in every way and very cruel, did reverse their position on weapons of mass destruction,” and that If Ahmadinejad did that tomorrow, I’d be glad to sit down and talk with Ahmadinejad.”
