Gefen & Hellmans have a light, cholesterol free version.

its not so wrong! im a nutritionist and let me expalin something to you. the real mayo is basically eggs and oil. which can be full of saturated fat, and artery clogging!

but stick to low fat mayo and use sparingly, but if you wont eat veg because no mayo- then def have it in moderation! (low fat)

good luck! and i admire your determinatiom to get healthy.

    remember- everything in mpderation!

Without it there would be an over population of tuna in the sea.

I never use mayo. You can substitute tehina. Tastes better, too.

haifagirl- hummus is also good- dont think that would work well egg or tuna salad tho. thats mostly where the problem of leaving it out is..

    #736947

Hellman’s Low Fat is a very good substitute. However, the fat free is vile, not worth it at all. Better to use the former in moderation then ruin whatever it is you’re adding mayo to.

haifagirl, for someone looking to lose weight, tehina is not that good an alternative! Or chummus!

Light mayonnaise is not too bad for you, and the plus is that the vinegar in some mayonnaise actually helps to retard the growth of bacteria in the food in which it is mixed.

ontheball- i disagree- it has alot of calories but is super healthy and has alot of protien

of course mayo isn’t healthy, but we all like it, and would never EVER dream of taking it out of our diets. But i must tell you i am extremely picky like the type that likes only coke and not pepsi and only very specific types of brands of food but the light hellmans tastes really good just like the regular. Maybe if you eat it globbed on something it may taste differently but overall its really good! Try it!!!!

Use Flax/Linseed Oil (must be kosher) instead. Flax is high in Omega3. Vinegar Apple Cider (kosher unpasteurized) is the best. Braggs Aminos made from Non GMO Soybeans and Purified Water. This product is also kosher. This is fun we need to continue by starting a Natural Health thread.

Hey, mayo is a valuable murder weapon!

Chemical lice treatments can be costly and some parents worry about pesticides leeching their way into the bloodstream. Luckily, lice breathe through their skin, so treating head lice is as easy as smothering them with mayonnaise or olive oil.

Seems effective at killing nits by suffocation. The effect on people isnt as quick though.

Who’s having tuna with mayo today?

    #736956

mayo kills the adult lice, not the nits

Gefen recently came out with light mayo made from conola oil (so no saturated fat) Its a bit more expensive, but in my oppinion difinitely worth it.

I’m a huge fan of Gefen mayo, and Thommy mayo.

Hellman’s is simply not my taste. Yes, I know that can be shocking.

    I meant canola oil

    #736964

Thomy, the Swiss, is absolutely the best.

In Israel, Heinz is great (made in Spain, I think). Second choice is Shufersal’s home brand (made in Germany), also excellent – actually they share the 1st place.

After that, at a VERY, VERY large distance, is Hellmans followed by the Israeli mayonaises (Talma-Shefa and the like) which are plain disgusting, the smell reminds of of anesthesia gas when I was a child and had surgery and got anesthesia by mask.

I try to avoid canola oil if at all possible.

For salads I use olive oil and for cooking I use coconut oil. Much healthier than canola oil.

How many of you realise that there’s lite mayo and there’s lite mayo?

Gefen, unger’s and raskin lite mayo are 50 calories per 14g serving.

Goodies lite mayo the label says 90 calories per 13g serving! (This is the same as the Goodies regular mayo, and a rep for Goodies told me that they accidentally copied and pasted the table on the lite from the regular mayo, and really its also the same as the other lite mayos.)

Gefen canola lite is 45 calories per 14g serving, as is Mishpacha lite mayo.

Hellmans lite mayo is 40 calories per 14g.

Not bad for info from a guy! Maybe I should rename myself Well Informed Yid…

sorry everyone but there is nothing that compares to the REAL THING!!!!!! hellmans!!!!!!!!!! but their light is ok also. The rest of the brands wish they can boast such a great taste like hellmans!

If Hellman’s is the best you Americans know, then I can only feel sorry for you! Come to Europe, try European mayonaises. Thomy from Switzerland most of all, and quite a few other European brands (all of which are kosher) from Holland and Germany, are WAY better. 🙂

I’d rather stay in America with my Hellman’s rather than live in Europe with whatever you have over there.
