OK, there are plenty of threads about places to go/things to do for singles out on dates. But what about us married folk? We go on dates too and could always use suggestions for fun places to go.

So, do you have any suggestions? Any ideas? Let’s hear them!

    Wolf:

Billiards, Ice Skating, playing a board game. Take a drive to nowhere just to talk (and make the kids fall asleep in the back!)

How about going to a lounge and playing “watch the shidduch dates”? 🙂

Wolf said something that wasnt kosher? I cant imagine what he would say!

Better than watch the shidduch dates, play shidduch date! Pretend to date your spouse but add in really funny things, said loud enough so the other shidduch dates can hear 🙂

Any restaurant, Starbucks, or a walk along the boardwalk (If you have one near you).

    Enjoy!

Well, Wolf is a little older than I am, so they could be a second marriage date…still would be funny 🙂 Besides, some sheitels are so natural that you cannot tell unless you are really looking close.

lol that would probably be really funny for older couples watching everyone else and saying back when I was in shidduchim… 🙂

i hate these married couples in lakewood that go to Ocean Place… a place in Deal where the ENTIRE lakewood goes on dates. im married now, but when i was in shidduchim it made me so upset that there were these couples that OBVIOUSLY went there just to check out the dating hock and seeing who was dating whom. it bothered me that they were just being yentas. dating is NOT the most comf thing in the world and to know that you are being judged and laughed at by couples who have nothing better to do with thier time is quite disturbing and no, i have not gone there since i got married.

InShidduchim, yep I heard that’s the only place people go in lakewood.

    InShidduchim:

Excuse my stupidity, but why don’t dates go somewhere else?

areivimzehlazeh: These are the things I did before I became old, and I’m suggesting them so maybe you young whippersnappers can enjoy life somewhat.

The lounge idea was due to me belonging to a Gym attached to a hotel.

Actually, The Ittisah and I sometimes play Scrabble. At least we’re not at the point of playing Canasta, B’H.

The (kosher) Ice Cream Parlor would be a fun place to go. What is more fun then a Chilling Experience!!!

A girl I know went on a “date” with her brother to a popular lounge to spy on her best friend! So mean… (it was a second date and the girl knew she was going to a specific place)

    #638076

Inshidduchim: 1. Why’s that ur name if ur married lol?!

    2. Yeah its true, I go on the boardwalk and see EVERY lakewood date, I find it funny though

Boy, it never ceases to amaze me how them young whippersnappers think they are the only ones allowed to go to “date” places. Maybe they are not being yentas. Maybe they LIKE Ocean Place. 😉

My husband and I have a regular “date” every Friday at noon. He finishes work early on erev Shabbos, and when he gets home, we go out to the bagel store and share a sandwich. We do this even when the weather is lousy, we are both tired from the morning, or we have other errands to take care of. It gives us a solid hour that we touch base without the pressures of everyone else’s need around us. Some of our best conversations happen in that bagel store.

Ice Skating is a fun thing to do, only if you have good balance and are able to skate and stay on your feet. An established Rink in the city or suburb that is maintained on a yearly basis, is probably more secure then Skating on a Lake or River. The latter you have to be concerned about the thickness and thaw factor of the ice due to the weather conditions. Bicycling is also fun, many cities have Bike Lanes that you can pedal on safely. Some suburbs (if you are lucky) have bike paths that meander through beautiful Forest Preserves. Make sure that you wear Helmets, your Bike has good working Brakes, and you know how to use hand Signals when turning.

oomis1105, thats a really nice idea, but why do u share a bagel, i would never get full from a half a bagel and neither would my spouse. If the idea is sharing, then i think we would share 2 bagels….

a ceramic painting shop is fun. you buy the item, mugs, vases, plates, and you paint them. it takes quite a while so you are spending fun quality time together.

    Oomis that is really nice!

Right now, my husband and I don’t get much free time (between working full time and him working on his masters). When we do get to go out, we sometimes go to parks and walk around. Its really peaceful.

When we get a lot of time (and have the money), we like to travel. I highly recommend a trip to Australia for EVERYONE. Its one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

To all those enquiring minds who want to know – the reason we share the bagel is that a) the bagel lady likes us a lot and always gives us a very full bagel of tuna or white fish/baked salmon salad so it is more than enough for the both of us b) my husband has type 2 diabetes, so half a bagel is more than enough carbs for him, and it doesn’t hurt me to cut down, either, LOL! c)especially on these shorter Fridays we don’t want to fill up before Shabbos d) with the price of appetizing going throught the roof, it is VERY economical and e) we just like to.

Start making plans for (if it is shiach) the Spring Garden. Gardening is a special treat to do and enjoy with your partner. Planting Flowers, Veggies, Spices, Melons… helps make Hashems World more beautiful. Then you both can go on a date in your beautiful home garden weeding the Flowers and the Veggies, Melons, and Spice Pants- then finally harvesting the magnificent bounty.

    yankdownunder,

I’ve never done a vegetable garden but am thinking of trying it this summer, but more as an activity to do with my kids. I’d like to just do small-scale gardening, maybe just container gardening, because I’ve never done it before. What plants do you recommend? Do you think I should start from seeds or seedlings? I live in the northeastern US.

Anon, my sister lives in Lakewood and basically made a farm! She plants tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, okra, peas, butternut squash, patti pan squash, corn, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, watermelons…and a tonof other stuff I am forgetting.

She bought the home depot gardening book and I think that really helped.

My mother grows raspberries which are really easy, but they take a few years before they “bear fruit”:-) Then they grow like wildfire!

anon for this- I would suggest to go to a shop like a Walmart or K-Mart that sells plants and pots (either plastic or Clay) in the back usually. Purchase plants already potted. Ask preferably the Manager for plant caring instructions. Another option is to go to a Greenhouse Tree Nursery place and buy plants there. The advantage of the Nursery is there are more plants and supplies to select from, and the Manager and Employees tend to be more knowledgeable regarding Gardening. Growing and Cultivating Plants is a fun rewarding experience for the entire family. As far specific plants to purchase I would suggest to ask the Manager if he or she could offer ideas about plants that would be suitable for your House or Home Garden. I hope this is helpful and answers your question, if not I will try to think about other options.

I just discovered this place called watson that does some amazing trivia-type scavenger hunts in locations all over the US. It is not terribly expensive (it was about $45 for the two of us), and its a great way to spend a solid two hours together, get some exercise, and learn a lot of interesting info about the hunt site. They are not item hunts, where you search for things, but trivia hunts. They have a website with their hunts listed. The Central Park hunt for families is a fantastic way to spend time with your kids, too.

    #638107

Pfru: can u explain about that more? U mean they make the scavenger hunt for u?? How do u get it?

They have public hunts in various locations on specific dates. You have to register your team in advance. Your group can be 2-6 ppl. You meet at the designated meeting place at the time on the ticket and the MC explains everything and gives you the clues. They are usually trivia questions about the hunt location, but the kind of questions where you need to actually be at the site in order to answer (so you can’t cheat and google the answer on your blackberry!) They usually offer a modest prize to the winning team (like a voucher for another hunt). A lot of the hunts in NY are in museums or public outdoor locations like central park or grand central terminal. I think the exact web address is http://www.watsonadventures.com . They are oftentimes on shabbos but every once in a while they have one in a location you like on a day that works. They can also make a private hunt according to your specifications, like for a school or business, but that is much more expensive. They also have family hunts, themed hunts, whodunit kind of hunts. This would probably also be fun to do with friends, or maybe husbands against wives!!
