Fatally shot while attempting stab someone else. An appropriate response from the white house-(if any)-would be to congratulate the officer who heroically saved an innocent (black) life. Instead, as can be expected, the white house pointed to the divisive police brutality narrative. Disgusting. Perfect example of needlessly inciting hatred against those who risk their lives to keep America safe. In my opinion, police officers should get together and go on a strike. Go on a strike until democrat politicians come crawling back on their knees with an apology.
April 21, 2021 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #1966883Fake Yeshiva BachurParticipantIf this was a frum boy in the heart of Boro Park you would be singing a different tune. Police have for so long needlessly endangered black lives. The officer very easily could have attempted to deescalate the situation. The problem is that he just didnt ‘care.
April 21, 2021 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1966903☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf a frum boy in the heart of BP was attacking someone with a knife and a cop shot him, I don’t know if I would be singing a different tune, but I’m sure the leftists would.
There wasn’t time to “deescalate the situation”. She had a knife raised and was about to stab the other girl.
April 22, 2021 2:21 am at 2:21 am #1966937ParticipantParticipantI do wonder if police brutality is a real problem or not. as with everything it’s hard to discuss it because you never know if the speaker is on partisan reflex or not. and the facts by definition skate the thin line between guilty and innocent.
April 22, 2021 10:50 am at 10:50 am #1967018hujuParticipantI vaguely recall an incident more than 5 years ago, in which an NYPD cop shot (and, I think, killed) a frum Jew weilding a hammer and threatening passersby in Boro Park or Williamsburg. The ywn commentators were mostly outraged at the brutality, especially because, it turned out, the shot man had a long history of mental illness.
One thing we learned from the Chauvin/Floyd murder is that when a cop kills someone, the cops release a phony story. The cell-phone video of George Floyd’s death unequivocally showed that the police department press release was a lie.
I don’t know enough about the shooting in this story to start passing out medals, or indictments, but I know that the facts in these situations are complicated, and police departments have an ugly history of lying.

Not to mention the other side does too

I believe you are referring to Gideon Busch a”h, and the incident took place over 20 years ago, and I don’t think YWN existed then.
Was there another case of a mentally ill frum man carrying a hammer who was shot by a NYPD cop? I don’t think so.

There’s a video.
April 22, 2021 2:14 pm at 2:14 pm #1967155torahvaluesoverpartyParticipantFYB, huju, i’m pretty sure I wouldn’t, I don’t know the specifics of the hammer guy, but if ANYONE-black, white, jewish, non jewish, frum, not frum, Chinese, Asian, European ……-that is about to kill someone else, it becomes the job of the police-or actually anyone-to try and stop the rotza’ach, even at the expense of the rotza’ch’s life. The arguments that he should have “deescalated the situation”, or “tackled her” or “used the taser”, or “shot at the legs” being spouted out by the left, are all utter stupidity. All non-real-world solution, but I guess it’s not uncommon to hear Leftists demanding we pursue non real world-solutions, and then complain when we don’t…
April 22, 2021 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #1967230History BuffParticipantThere was a case in Bork Park about 50 years ago where a Bobover chosid was stabbed to death on a Friday night walking home from shul. Shabbos morning a demonstration in front of the 66th precinct turned violent and the demonstrators broke into the building and trashed it. For those times that was a radical act to message that Jewish Lives Matter.
April 22, 2021 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1967239nishtdayngesheftParticipantHuju,
Mr. Bush was waiving a hammer, but he was not immediately next to some one. This girl was literally leaning on another girl swinging a knife at her.
The cases are hardly the same.
But you prefer that a Jew is killed apparently.
April 22, 2021 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1967246Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantA serious discussion on the matter should consider all threats to violent populations.
How many poor people are killed by police and by criminals? how muc money is required to re-train police to be moe humane? how many criminals you could arrest with the same amount of money? how many less criminals if you would get if you give vouchers to parents in those neighbnorhhod?Fortunately, this country have a perfect system to conduct controlled experiments – different states have different policies. Check how things compare in different states and how they change when policies change.
April 22, 2021 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1967251The little I knowParticipantThe armchair Monday morning quarterbacks are spouting nothing more intelligent than the narrative of their choice. Meanwhile, the training of the police officer and the protocols they follow are not considered a bit. This is a symptom of the disease of liberalism, and nothing cures it. All we can do is vote those evil libs out of office. We need to pass strong legislation that makes violence punishable with serious consequences. Sadly, DemocRats only want the criminals to walk freely, and to be rewarded for their savagery. If we value our lives more than the funding for yeshivos, we would solidly support opposing candidates in elections.
April 23, 2021 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #1967454torahvaluesoverpartyParticipantWow, i just saw segment of CNN’s Don Lemon actually defending the heroic action of the officer. So on one hand, I gotta give credit where it’s due, on the other hand, Biden’s the white house isn’t doing so great when even CNN is disagreeing with them….
April 25, 2021 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #1967745nishtdayngesheftParticipantHistory Buff.
I believe it was in 1978. The protest was that they wanted the police in their neighborhood. The BLM movement is to get police out almost entirely.
Seems a bit different.
