I’ll be transiting thru Manhattan next month; I’ll be there for about 24 hours. While I’m there I’d like to buy a watch. Can anyone please recommend a place that won’t rip me off, and has watches that look nice but are not overly expensive? I only need the watch to tell time; I don’t need a smart watch, I don’t need extra dials and buttons and gadgets. I’d even get a wind-up watch if it looks nice. Please, places in Manhattan only; I won’t have time for subways to other boroughs. TIA!

Try your local walmart or shop Amazon (if you like sending rich people to outer space). If you’re not looking for a status watch with a tourbillon movement, a simple Timex could work. A Timex Weekender is only about $38.

There are many great places to buy watches in Manhattan, but it can be overwhelming to choose one. Based on your requirements for a watch that looks nice but is not overly expensive, and that you don’t need a smartwatch or extra dials and buttons, here are some recommendations for you:

Macy’s Herald Square: Macy’s is a well-known department store in Manhattan, and they have a good selection of watches that fit your criteria. They carry brands like Citizen, Seiko, and Timex that offer reliable, functional watches at affordable prices.

Tourneau: Tourneau is a luxury watch retailer with several locations in Manhattan. While they do carry high-end brands like Rolex and Patek Philippe, they also have a selection of more affordable watches from brands like Tissot and Hamilton.

Swatch: Swatch is a popular brand that offers a range of stylish watches at affordable prices. They have a store in Times Square, which is a convenient location for many travelers.

Uniqlo: Uniqlo is a Japanese clothing retailer that also carries a selection of affordable watches. They have several locations in Manhattan, including one on Fifth Avenue.

Nordstrom Rack: Nordstrom Rack is a discount store that carries a variety of brands at reduced prices. They have a location in Union Square that carries watches from brands like Fossil and Skagen.

I hope these recommendations help you find the perfect watch during your trip to Manhattan!

Buy it online where you can shop at your leisure, compare prices and read reviews of those that interest you. Focus on the size of the watch face you are comfortable with, the type of band and closure, and whether you want the display to be digital (i.e. show the time in numbers) or have a traditional hour/minute watchface.

My favorite watch is the Citizen Eco-Drive. Never needs a battery, bought on eBay. Less than $100.

maybe, it is not lack of watches, but too high taxes? How many watches/rings one can wear to pass through the customs? 2 hands? headband? Nose ring? two court-approved ankle bracelets?
