This is the argument for keeping the “second half of the Omer”. It keeps this partial Aveilus completely out of Nissan.
However, it appears that the majority keep the “first half of the Omer” which includes a week of Nissan.
Argument for “first half of the Omer” is that it is effectively shorter than the “second half of the Omer” by about a week; and we do not want to fill the year up with long stretches of mourning.
to hello99- see another thread in the coffee room in reference to music in the sefira (lengthy and comprehensive) and you will see that your categorical statement “you may not listen’ is wrong.
to josh31- actually- the majority of ashkenazi jews only start keeping sefira from rosh chodesh iyar (second day) there are many weddings scheduled on rosh chodesh and before.
ROB: I have no problem with those who follow the second time frame, today is actually my anniversary. However for those who DO follow the first time there is NO basis to be lenient on isru chag. If you have a specific source please quote it.
