I have seen quite a few ads and people looking for others to buy these coins and offering a commission of up to $150 dollars (the $50 dollars offered here is on the very low side of what I’ve seen).
Can someone explain to me why people are willing to pay other people to buy something for them? Is this legal/Yashar? What do the puchasers expect to gain?
Thanks, G@W

August 10, 2015 1:50 pm at 1:50 pm #1095541zahavasdadParticipantI just checked on eBay, it seems these are going for $200 a set or more

Thanks ZD, you explained the why (2 per customer) and gain (sell on E-bay for 3-4 times what it costs).
I would still like to discuss the legal/Yashar aspect. Isn’t this hiring someone to make a purchase for you, which would make it your purchase? Why is this different than setting up multiple shipments?

You can sell something with the agreement that it won’t be delivered for a few weeks. Halachicly it is discussed in Perek Azehu Neshech regarding produce that does not have a “shaar” yet.
August 10, 2015 6:15 pm at 6:15 pm #1095545zahavasdadParticipantThey are selling them Pre-sale on ebay
I have no idea how they intend on getting them.
I dont see the halacha issue, there is no Gurantee if you buy them yoruself you will be able to sell them, He is gurnateeing the money.
You are purchasing them, not him. You also have the right to back out and sell yourself if he didnt pay
August 10, 2015 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #1095546gavra_at_workParticipantzahavasdad – Is a purchase guarantee implied? What if the mint makes a million more of these, will the buyer still be required to buy it from the one who bought it under this agreement (and pay the commission)? What if they are worth $300, and the straw buyer decides to keep it, does he have the right to do so?
August 10, 2015 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #1095547–ParticipantIt doesn’t pass my smell test. Is there any enforcement on the agreement? If they appreciate more than $50 can the straw buyer simply not follow through? And if they don’t appreciate the straw buyer will probably be stuck with the coins.
The US Mint has a good idea of what the demand for numismatic items are and unless limited by legislation can produce more.
August 10, 2015 10:35 pm at 10:35 pm #1095548Abba_SParticipantThis is a marketing gimmick. They are encouraging people to buy the coins but at some point the bubble will burst and people will be left with over priced coins. As a general rule if you buy a coin from the US Mint you wouldn’t make money (the coins will not appreciate) unless you hold it for 10 years.
This also may not be the US Mint but a company that calls itself US Min, you have to look carefully and there are just getting people to buy their coins and once they are all sold out they will declare bankruptcy. In that case some of the people who sold the coins back to them are out not only their money but also the coins as they are unsecured creditors.

August 11, 2015 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #1095550zahavasdadParticipantThanks for posting this, they are now going for $400 each on eBay
I got 2 Sets so I will make a nice profit on them
August 12, 2015 12:35 pm at 12:35 pm #1095551gavra_at_workParticipantZD: No worries, that was not my intent, but I hope you make money off this. Please let us know what happens.
August 12, 2015 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm #1095552Abba_SParticipantI hope everyone makes a lot of money on this but I just think it’s a scam.
