I am faced with a Tremendous dilemma on a daily basis. My friend(s) walk in all excited with their pre mixed CD , asks me what I think? Honestly I think it won’t make it.

What should I tell them ?

Be honest, but give them ideas on how to make it better. Also, don’t say things like “that’s awful” but phrase it better like “I am not sure the general public would appreciate your art.”

I recently had a situation where someone asked me to proofread something. I gave them honest feedback and they were really annoyed. All they were looking for was fake praise. So, if you think this is what they are looking for, just go with that.

Positive criticism and constructive not destructive criticism.

Don’t be negative but don’t lie.

Say something along the lines of, this could be fabulous if you possibly looked at changing XYZ. Or, This has great potential, a little rough at the edges still but on the way to great things.

Hope this is of some help.

kapusta, your friend makes a cd and asks you to listen to it before he goes releasing it. You listen and you think its awful. It would not make a great hit. How you let him know just that. I believe that is the scoop.

is it really bad, or if when making a few changes it can be bettered?

also, is the person aware that just like anything in this world, there is a good possibility that it might not sell?

its not like you should get a new hat or something its over a hundred thousand dollar investment.

i think we are at fault the guy goes to wedding sings everyone tells him how amazing he is and puts out an album we should just have told him that he sings mediocre

Halacha is you don’t praise a mekach if the guy can return it. If you lie to them, you cause them a loss of thousands of dollars. You can save them a fortune by telling them the truth, even if they don’t want to hear it. Try to say it nicely though.

Tell them about how hard it is to really make it big and that there are so many people out there trying to put out a CD. You don’t have to be rude and tell them that they suck, just focus on the fact that it’s really hard to go far in the music industry. Also, why don’t you suggest voice lessons, if they’re serious about singing?

If they’re really awful, who’s going to produce them anyways?
