A different Jewish news website has a button for comments that says “Lashon Hara/ Hate Speech” and if you think it could be that then you flag it and it can be looked at (also upvotes)

Why can’t Yeshiva World have that?

I understand that the other website doesn’t have the CR but still….

One person’s truth is another person’s lashon harah. The editors would need to a whole bunch of full time “mashgichim” to assist the Mods in evaluating what qualifies as lashon harah versus plain old hate speech (e.g. “all yiden who either vote for Dems or believe the Rebbe is Mashiach are mamash menuvalim, apikorsim, etc.”, )

We can have a CR zabla beis din – take one leftwing and one rightwing poster and let them choose the third and they can vote on whether a post qualifies as LH.

Dorah: Do you also go around saying that one man’s porn is another man’s art? And then insist on no “censorship” of such “art”?

If there is going to be a new button to report Lashon HaRa,
then there should also be a 2nd button to report laitzanus,
a 3rd button to report Nivul Pen,
a 4th button to report Onaas Devarim,
a 5th button to report sheker,
and a 6th button to report Cefirah.

“ One person’s truth is another person’s lashon harah. ”.

Someone is really showing a distinct lack of halachic understanding here.

    Square root,

I love that way of thinking

People call it “all or nothing”

Let’s use it in other things too

    Kitniyos should include potatoes
Muktzeh should include everything except for ones siddur, Tallis, and cutlery (I know it started off like that actually)
    We can other examples too!

Obviously, a “true” statement can also be lashoh harah but there are also exceptions where factual statements are permitted. The Mods seem to be able to make those distinctions w/o adding a link on each posting so that all the armchair CR poskim can demand the removal of another posting that offends them.

Square Root: What about a button to object to anonymous and chronic button pushing by other CR posters along with a button to seek appellate review of the Mods decision to edit or delete a post (sort of like the NFL rules which allow a team to object to a call by an official on the field).

As alluded to above, there are notable exceptions to what constitutes lashon hara. For instance, common knowledge is not included in the ban, as is information for tachlis. Telling a neighbor who is considering a home remodeling that contractor X did a poor job for you or ripped you off seems okay. Also telling someone that Harvey Weinstein is a menuval is not a chiddush.

The Chayai Adam wanted to asser potatoes as kitnoyos, so he was told that you are taking away the chayai adam.
