Humans naturally label and discriminate. That is how human society works.
December 24, 2015 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #1118257Mashiach AgentMemberwhen a human discriminates someone else it makes him feel good & think that he is perfect with no issues & raise his self-esteem & self-image.
its sad that this is what people need to do to make them feel good. aren’t there other better ways to make you feel good? how about looking at your life accomplishments brought through hard labor? look at your large beautiful family you are raising & all the success Hashem has given you at work with a great parnassah. there’s no need to label & discriminate people to make you feel good.
December 24, 2015 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm #1118258👑RebYidd23ParticipantWhat if I don’t have a large beautiful family? What if I’m in poor health, childless and penniless, working hard with no success? Then can I discriminate?
December 24, 2015 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #1118259Mashiach AgentMembertheres always something to be proud of yourself. something you have accomplished in the past, in your earlier younger years. your wonderful spouse, your wonderful parents who raised you. not everyone is as lucky as you to have such special parents. you should be proud of them
December 24, 2015 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1118260👑RebYidd23ParticipantWhat if I was raised by a couple of jerks who didn’t care at all about me? What if I’m single because nobody wanted my parents for in-laws? What if I was literally raised in a barn? Then can I discriminate?

Proof, please.
I don’t believe it to be universally true. I sometimes don’t believe it to be true even of myself.

December 24, 2015 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1118263MDGParticipantWe encounter many people and things. We need to have a way to analyze what we encounter. Therefore our minds like to categorize to make it easier. Sometimes the labels are good and sometimes not.

then you must have low self-esteem & should seek help ASAP

December 25, 2015 1:07 am at 1:07 am #1118266skripkaParticipanti think labels were created to categorize people, not necessarily to discriminate
December 25, 2015 3:51 am at 3:51 am #1118268thefirstjewishjewMemberThe word discriminate means simply to tell apart despite its negative connotations. Yes Labels were made to discriminate, that is in essence the definition of a label. However, a lot of time it is OK to label people. If someone is labelled as a drug dealer, chances are even if they are clean cut and sharp, you would not want a family member to marry them without knowing that knowledge first. I agree negative labels are sometimes thrown around too much. But that shouldnt allow us to get rid of labelling altogether.
December 25, 2015 11:23 am at 11:23 am #1118269👑RebYidd23ParticipantI’m not sure whom you are arguing against. You seem to be bringing in points that nobody else even mentioned.
