I just saw a report on the news saying this is the second night of kwanzaa and it showed people light the second light on the kinara this is a total rip off of our holiday! their 50 year old holiday was taken from us oh but wait they use 7 candles not eight so its totally different right. Yeesh.

Frankly, let our black brothers and sisters be influenced by us and develop a sense of national pride. All the best to them!

It is a made up holiday, so they do not feel left out of the seasonal spirit. If it causes them to be more menschlech, go for it!

But Africa has tons of traditions I’m sure why do they have to steal from us?

Kwanzaa is a holiday that was invented as a black power festival by a radical Marxist sociology professor in the UC system in the 60s. It is downright subversive.

Arguably not Avodah Zarah since it was created recently without any claim of religious significance (making it a secular holiday similar to the classic “king’s birthday” or “Independence Day” or “Columbus Day” or “Veterans’ Day/Armistice Day/Remembrance Day”).
