I do not believe in a two-discussion-thread solution, one for ketchup haters and one for ketchup lovers. Let us all convene here and speak peaceably on a subject so many of you are clearly so passionate about.
What is the NUMBER ONE food you would NEVER put ketchup on? I ask of both ketchup lovers and haters alike.
Would you put ketchup on your pizza (which already has tomato sauce)? Would you put it on a bagel with nothing else? Would you drizzle it all over a birthday cake? How far will you go before the prospect of putting ketchup on random foods seems revolting to you?
And, as noted, this thread is intended for both parties to have a little fun. ^_^
January 13, 2014 2:21 pm at 2:21 pm #1019858tzaddiqMemberthis thread can use some ketchup all over it
January 13, 2014 2:29 pm at 2:29 pm #1019859TheGoqParticipantAs i stated in my thread that started it all i cannot fathom putting ketchup on eggs.

January 13, 2014 2:35 pm at 2:35 pm #1019860sem613Participantketchup on pizza is actually quite good. especially when you get down to the crust where there is no sauce.
but ketchup on a bagel or cake is just overdoing it
January 13, 2014 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #1019861WIYMemberPutting ketchup on an apple is going too far.
January 13, 2014 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm #1019862notasheepMemberketchup on anything is going too far. Why spoil perfectly good food?
January 13, 2014 6:15 pm at 6:15 pm #1019863tzaddiqMembermy son likes ketchup on his ketchup, but sometimes likes to eat it his ketchup plain.
oh, and he does NOT like ketchup in his cereal, at all.
January 13, 2014 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #1019864👑RebYidd23ParticipantHot food. It spreads the smell. And it’s probably true that we have different nerve receptors, and the disgustingness (that’s a real word now, I made it up) of ketchup simply is not detected by many people, but it’s very real for some of us.
January 13, 2014 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #1019865WIYMemberSometimes i like to spice up my ketchup by eating it with food under it.

Its already a real word.
January 13, 2014 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm #1019867Bookworm120Participant@WIY – Hm, I guess I ought to try that sometime. 😛
January 13, 2014 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm #1019868👑RebYidd23ParticipantIt is a word since I invented it. You must be very young not to remember.
January 13, 2014 11:36 pm at 11:36 pm #1019869oomisParticipantKetchup does not belong on lemon meringue pie. It could, however, go nicely on a mozzarella cheese pie.
January 14, 2014 12:06 am at 12:06 am #1019870👑RebYidd23ParticipantNo, ketchup belongs on cauliflower because I don’t like that anyway.
January 14, 2014 12:13 am at 12:13 am #1019871oomisParticipantTURMERIC belongs on cauliflower. Yum, (but just a little goes a long, long way). Add some salt.
January 14, 2014 5:19 am at 5:19 am #1019872ronrsrMemberUmmmmm. Grape Soda, that’s the only food or drink I can think of that is not improved by a dollop of ketchup.
January 19, 2014 11:26 am at 11:26 am #1019873👑RebYidd23ParticipantNo, ketchup belongs on cauliflower because then I can safely avoid it.
January 19, 2014 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm #1019874writersoulParticipantI think that ketchup can go on anything. Will I eat it afterwards? Nope.
The absolute ONLY food I ever put ketchup in by my own volition and with the intention of subsequently eating it is the cholent.
My sister, on the other hand, is an advocate of the “ketchup-on-ketchup” school of thought. Her favorite sandwich, until recently, was a burger with ketchup and pickles with extra ketchup and no burger. Sometimes she would add sliced tomatoes for that bit of zing. My brother, following in her footsteps, ensures that it really is worth it to buy those gigantic ketchup bottles at Costco.
What food shouldn’t have ketchup? I don’t personally care, but if my dad ate ice cream with mustard, it’s only a short step downward to ketchup. I should advise him to try it.
January 20, 2014 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #1019875notasheepMemberNo, we don’t do ketchup in the cholent. Paprika gives it the same colour, without the nauseating taste.
January 20, 2014 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm #1019876writersoulParticipantnotasheep: I use both, actually. I think it tastes fine. I also put in BBQ sauce, though, so we may be coming from two fundamentally different viewpoints…
January 22, 2014 7:42 am at 7:42 am #1019877👑RebYidd23ParticipantOh, you can put it on pasta.

You like ketchup with cola,
are not sure about ketchup with vodka.
abd definitely won’t touch ketchup with hot dogs?
June 12, 2014 5:39 am at 5:39 am #1019882I. M. ShluffinParticipantI do not like green eggs and ketchup. Or most anything with ketchup, actually, thank you for asking. I’ll eat it on hot dogs, but the problem is that I don’t really like hot dogs. I”ll eat it in the cholent if I can’t tell it’s there. Come to think of it, I don’t like the majority of the cholent pot, either. I’ll eat the potatoes.
June 12, 2014 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm #1019883notasheepMemberA couple of weeks ago one of the magazines had all the staff write in their cholent tips, and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them put ketchup in the cholent.
Why. WHY??
Not to brag, but I make an awesome cholent and there is no ketchup in it! Gasp! You didn’t think that was possible, did you?
(Just ask the yeshiva bochurim who eat by me every single shabbos and still want to pick up the leftovers afterwards. If there is any.)

June 12, 2014 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #1019885yaakov doeParticipantKetchup is great on herring, lox, petcha, sweetbreads, chopped liver and kenadlach. And on Shevous cheesecake and blintzes.
