How can someone join Hatzalah in NY?
May 1, 2012 12:13 am at 12:13 am #8730002scentsParticipantAnswer would be to contact the branches corporate office. However chances are slim that they will accept you.
A lot of people that applied, some of them who have the capabilities to volunteer, yet they were declined.
May 1, 2012 12:24 am at 12:24 am #873001derszogerMemberWhy would they decline a sincere volunteer, that chances of acceptance are slim??
May 1, 2012 12:38 am at 12:38 am #8730022scentsParticipantMaybe cuz they get lots of application. And think that most people are interested in the lights and sirens.
May 1, 2012 12:42 am at 12:42 am #8730032scentsParticipantI would love to join hatzoloh. .
I am up each day at 3 in the morning, and since I am self employed I am available most of the day as well.
However, I was told that getting accepted (monsey hatzoloh) is very hard. Since. Am not an ambulance chaser, I won’t be an hatzoloh chaser as well.
May 1, 2012 1:47 am at 1:47 am #873004HealthParticipant2scents -“I would love to join hatzoloh.”
Once upon a time, I was willing to Volly for them. Now I wouldn’t do it unless they paid me. And not a typical EMT or Medic salary either.
May 1, 2012 2:00 am at 2:00 am #873005golden momMemberit is very hard to join hatzolah from what i hear alot of politics who knows but i see in bp a new vol amb opened up all those who couldnt get into hatzolah but wanted to help community
May 1, 2012 2:43 am at 2:43 am #873006derszogerMembergolden mom: Which new volunteer ambulance service opened up in boro park?
May 1, 2012 4:22 am at 4:22 am #873007just meParticipantThe problem is that many people want to join and it cost hatzala alot of money for the gear the member’s get. There is also lots and lots of politics.
The problem with a new volunteer ambulance, it seems to me that they started it more to show Hatzalah they could do it than out of a need to help others. I say that because Hatzlah is doing the job very well. Another ambulance staffed by guys who couldn’t get in to Hatzala isn’t needed. ALL of these organization have more politics than you would believe! The expression used is “Hatzahlah works DESPITE itself”.
You want to help? Volenteer for Project Yes or Camp Simcha or Tomchei Shabbos. Somewhere where they are looking for people and would want you.
May 1, 2012 4:56 am at 4:56 am #873008TheGoqParticipantAvhaben it doesnt surprise me that you are interested you seem the gung ho macho type.
May 1, 2012 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #8730092scentsParticipantHealth,
and why is that?
are you looking for a job? there are lots of Private ambulance corps out there.
why is it that you think that they should pay you more than a regular medic gets paid?
I am not looking to do it for money, rather as a passion.
May 1, 2012 2:40 pm at 2:40 pm #8730102scentsParticipantGolden Mom,
I am not in BP.
I have heard from that Vol Ambulance some time ago.
they ‘jump’ Hatzolo and 911 calls.
I dont know first hand, however from what I have heard, they are not the kind of people I would like to work with.
May 1, 2012 2:43 pm at 2:43 pm #8730112scentsParticipantJust me, you summed it up very well.
Hatzalah, is infested with politics, in my opinion, the people running the organization should be open to scrutiny.
However, I cannot volunteer in those places, since I work. However I am available to respond most of the day.
May 1, 2012 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #873012derszogerMember2scents, what kind of politics is it infested with?
May 1, 2012 7:13 pm at 7:13 pm #8730132scentsParticipantderszoger,
I was about to answer your questions.
However I do not think that it is right to write what I know in a public forum.
All that I will say, is that the organization has one objective, and a good one. However there are some individuals that are in charge, they put their personal agendas before the organizations.
May 1, 2012 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #873014golden momMember2scents i agree i am nervous to put what i know here so instead i will give a brocha that all the hatzolah memebers out there be zoche to be doing this for the right reasons and be zoche to be a sleach of Hashem and be able to help all those who need their assistance
May 1, 2012 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #873015147Participantderszoger:- Answer:- No woman member, despite the fact that an ordinary Tzenu’ah woman would rather be treated by a woman responder than a man responder; Not only for childbirth, but even for other medical situations.
May 1, 2012 11:08 pm at 11:08 pm #873016chaimboruchMembertry to get it– After all you want to help another– if you dont get in, you tried and did you hishtadlus, and you will get ??? for all the calls you could have responded to.
(That is if YOU want to get into hatzalah for the right reasons! not just to be part of the members only exclusive club!)
May 2, 2012 1:02 am at 1:02 am #8730172scentsParticipantI won’t fool myself by saying that I am doing it for the sechar. Since I can learn an additional hour each day, the sechar is bigger.
It’s cuz I have a passion for it.
May 2, 2012 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm #873018PosterMemberHatzola is there for anyone that needs it R”L. They put their personal schedule to the back burner for any call. No one should have the chutzpa to speak bad about them no matter what.
May 2, 2012 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #873019shmoelMemberEven if they act wrongly?
May 2, 2012 3:13 pm at 3:13 pm #873020chaimboruchMember2scents: The schar of saving a life is more the learning– although learning is still neccesary. Passion to join hatzalah is good too. (the big question is if you would join hatzalah if you would not be able to have all the lights on the car!– if you would then you mean it— if not– become part of chaverim or shomrim)

I’d answer the question, but it wouldn’t make it through moderation. I’ll answer simply – Politics and I’m a medical professional.
May 2, 2012 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #873022HealthParticipantshmoel -“Even if they act wrongly?”
Poster’s line amongst many others is commonly used. If I had a dollar for every line -I’d be a millionare!

Please don’t be. Just change the names to insure privacy.
May 2, 2012 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #873024mewhoParticipantunfortunately, like every organization there are some rotten apples that spoil it for others.
if you really want to volunteer and you meet all of their criteria, you should approach the coordiantor in your neighborhood and speak with him.
as ”poster” stated, no one should be talking badly about them coz as i said , the majority are G-ds angels who come to help others in need. the small group that you may have issue with should not besmirch the organization as a whole.
May 2, 2012 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm #873025shmoelMemberchaimboruch: Learning Torah is greater than saving a life.
May 2, 2012 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #8730262scentsParticipantYes I sure would. That is the reason I do not want to joint the other organizations you have mentioned.
It is not that I want to part of club or have lights, its that this is something I would like to do.
May 2, 2012 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #873027WolfishMusingsParticipantchaimboruch: Learning Torah is greater than saving a life.
Obviously not. If a person were choking next to you while you were learning, would you ignore him and continue with your Tosfos and let him die on the grounds of “Learning Torah is greater than saving a life?”

May 2, 2012 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #873028shmoelMemberCommitting your time to learning Torah is a greater endeavor than committing your time in anticipation of people needing life saving help, at the expense of learning.
May 2, 2012 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm #873029ChallahbackMemberthere are no “politics” for someone to get accepted or denied into Hatzolah.
If your neighborhood is looking for new members, and they feel you are sincere in your reasons for wanting to join Hatzolah, with gentle persistance you eventually will get accepted-
In many cases the people with “connections” are the ones that do not get accepted right away- it is a case of “who you dont know” as opposed to “who you know”.
May 2, 2012 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #873030WolfishMusingsParticipantCommitting your time to learning Torah is a greater endeavor than committing your time in anticipation of people needing life saving help, at the expense of learning.
So, by that definition, I suppose we should close down all the Hatzalah centers and dedicate those buildings and resources to yeshivos instead, right?
The Wolf
May 3, 2012 1:02 am at 1:02 am #8730312scentsParticipantwhy should we shut hatzoloh? only becuase there are bigger mitzvos?
Bigger mitzvoh doesnt mean that you can pick and choose between mitzvos, all it means that it is bigger.
May 3, 2012 1:58 am at 1:58 am #873032HealthParticipantChallahback – I’m getting richer -the lines keep coming.
May 3, 2012 2:01 am at 2:01 am #873033HealthParticipantmewho -“the small group that you may have issue with should not besmirch the organization as a whole.”
Of course it does. Why are they still there?
May 3, 2012 12:02 pm at 12:02 pm #873034debdab55MemberHatzala is an amazing organization. Give credit to the dedicated men that give up their sleep, dinners, holidays with family and even eating after a fast to come to the help of people who need their services. As a Hatzala dispatcher I see the true dedication of these men who drop everything even learning in kollel to save a life. Give this organization the credit it deserves.
May 3, 2012 12:10 pm at 12:10 pm #8730352scentsParticipantHealth, almost every organization has issues, this doesnt mean that the organization should be shut down.
Of course the ultimate thing would be if there were no issues, but this does not warrant a shut down.

I never advocated closure – that’s why I said I’d work for them for an excellent salary. I don’t play politics.
May 4, 2012 1:09 am at 1:09 am #8730372scentsParticipantHealth, I am sorry, I misread your post.
May 4, 2012 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #8730382scentsParticipantHealth, the fact that you wanted to join hatzoloh, leads me to believe that you are an emt or paramedic.
Is that correct?

Was both; now I’m past that. I have a few different hats in the medical field.
May 8, 2012 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm #8730402scentsParticipantDid you give up (not renew) your EMT(P) license?
May 8, 2012 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm #873041mewhoParticipantsome people are a little full of themselves and should not consider themselves so high and mighty.i am referring to poster(s)not folks from teh organization.
there are many personalities in all organizations and again i will say the majority dont do it for the thanks. they do it coz they genuinely want to help others. the few conrolling or pompous folks should not make people have a bad taste for teh entire organization.
May 8, 2012 3:56 pm at 3:56 pm #8730422scentsParticipantthanks for your kind words.
May 8, 2012 5:16 pm at 5:16 pm #873043miritchkaMemberdebdab55: as the wife of a member of hatzolah, i would like to give a shout out to you for your time and devotion!! Whenever I hear the radio go off, I cant help but be amazed that someone volunteers a couple of hours of their day/night straight to answer and dispatch calls!
Shame on all of you who criticize hatzolah! I only pray that you dont ever need their services! Yes there is alot of politics in hatzolah, but it does not shter their amazing work to help you all!
May 8, 2012 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #8730442scentsParticipantmiritchka,
I dont think that anyone was criticizing any volunteers, we were discussing the politics.

C’mon, you can do better than this. Think of some good lines besides “shame on you”.
