I answer the phones at my Yeshiva many times throughout the day and when i tell people that the person is not there and do they want the voicemail they seem to hold it against me personally, that they cant speak to their party immediately and they will begrudgingly accept my offer of the voicemail, listen dont do me any favors and don’t kill the messenger people during the day have to sometimes leave their desks don’t act like i killed your puppy because i cant instantly gratify your request. End rant.
January 16, 2012 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #843982BTGuyParticipantDoes the yeshiva know you are answering their phones throughout the day and telling people that the person they are calling for is not there?
January 16, 2012 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #843983popa_bar_abbaParticipantI tell my secretary to always tell callers I am not in, and then if they act annoyed, to send them through. This way, I know I will only get the callers who really want to speak to me.
January 16, 2012 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #843984TheGoqParticipantBTG i work there i am not a bochur.
January 16, 2012 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #843985TheGoqParticipantPopa does your secretary make Starbucks runs for you?

Well, you seem to be doing your job.
Where are all those people who are “not there”?
January 16, 2012 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #843987TheGoqParticipantWell let see , breakfast, lunch, dinner, washroom, just not in the building, giving shiur, in a meeting, but the point is they are so disappointed and they express their chagrin to me like its my fault or something.
January 16, 2012 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #843988popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m proposing a mass CR call-in to GOQ’s yeshiva. We’ll all ask for someone, then not grumble when he says they aren’t available.
And we’ll also prank call and say funny things.
Since we don’t know which yeshiva, we’ll just call all of them. Everybody call the yeshivos whose name starts with the same letter as your username. I’ll call Yeshivas Poretz Geder.
January 16, 2012 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #843989yitayningwutParticipantI’ll call Yishechenu Nachash.
January 16, 2012 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #843990🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantcome on Goq – give us the first 8 numbers
January 16, 2012 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #843991popa_bar_abbaParticipantIn Europe, yeshivos didn’t have telephones.
January 16, 2012 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm #843992yitayningwutParticipantThey didn’t have Starbucks either.
January 16, 2012 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #843993popa_bar_abbaParticipantThey did have cast iron pans, though.
January 16, 2012 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm #843994TheGoqParticipantI will give you the first 4 1-718
January 16, 2012 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #843995yitayningwutParticipantOh come on the 1 doesn’t count.
January 16, 2012 9:16 pm at 9:16 pm #8439962scentsParticipantin this day and age who needs phones?
I only communicate via Email.
January 16, 2012 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #843997popa_bar_abbaParticipantI communicate only via YWN.
January 16, 2012 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #843998aries2756ParticipantGoq, try “So sorry, you just missed him, but I can put you through to is “Private” voice mail”.”
January 16, 2012 10:21 pm at 10:21 pm #843999☕️coffee addictParticipantOr you can tell them that you’ll take down their name and number (don’t tell them you’ll give it to whom they want to speak to) and they should wait for a phone call (which won’t be forthcoming)
January 16, 2012 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #844000TheGoqParticipantThat sounds good Aries ill try that.
