in eretz yisrael isru chag is shabbbos so how are they going to eat challah on shabbos?
April 8, 2015 1:17 am at 1:17 am #1072088WiseyParticipantthey will eat matzoh (coffee addict or chametz addict LOL)
(I don’t know what sfardim who make a mizonos on matzah during the year will do. Unless the sale from the goy goes back before the shabbos suedah if this form of kinyan is mutar on shabbos.)
April 8, 2015 2:36 am at 2:36 am #1072089147ParticipantI don’t know what sfardim who make a mizonos on matzah during the year will do This issue was already addressed by Rav Ovadiah Yosef ZTKLLH’H”:- Answwer:- this scenario of Isru Chag Pesach on Shabbos is a unique situation, when the rational that Matzo is your only bread and hence rises from Mezonos to haMotzei during Pesach, is still in effect on this Shabbos Isru Chag, and does not revert back to being Mezonos until after this Shabbos Isru Chag Pesach.
I attended a Shiur by Rav Ovadiah Yosef ZTKLLH’H in person back in the 1980’s when he discussed this question amongst several others.

April 8, 2015 5:25 am at 5:25 am #1072091JosephParticipantWhat’s the logic that the same matzah that is hamotzi on Pesach becomes mezonos when it isn’t Pesach?
April 8, 2015 5:29 am at 5:29 am #1072092takahmamashParticipantWe shall be eating matzah and lots of kitniyot.
April 8, 2015 8:39 am at 8:39 am #1072093BarryLS1ParticipantSome Ashkenazi in Israel will use Sfardi soft matzoh on Shabbos.
April 12, 2015 2:42 am at 2:42 am #1072094147ParticipantWishing all coffee room colleagues & Diaspora Jews a sincere Isru Chag Sameach.
As for Israelis, Isru Chag was yesterday and is already over, so too late to wish our dear Israeli Brothers an Isru Chag Sameach.
Meanwhile we are already in midst of final preparations for the big Yom Tov in latter part of next week, of Yom ha’Atzmaut.

April 12, 2015 6:20 am at 6:20 am #1072097takahmamashParticipantSome Ashkenazi in Israel will use Sfardi soft matzoh on Shabbos.
Sfardi matzah was declared minhag hamakom on our yishuv some time ago, so we used it throughout Pesach.
April 12, 2015 8:59 am at 8:59 am #1072098old manParticipantMost ashkenazim treated Shabbos the same as in Chu”l, not eating chametz or kitniyot. Some ashkenazim ate kitniyot. After all, it was not Pesach anymore, and kitniyot is not chametz and is not sold to the goy.
Soft matzah is really irrelevant to this discussion. It is matzah like any other matzah except that it is thicker and soft. It can be eaten at the seder and through Pesach. Many ashkenazim have an emotional aversion to it because it looks too much like an Iraqi pita or laffa, but that’s purely psychological. After Pesach, this psychological barrier falls and they eat it.
To each his own.
April 12, 2015 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm #1072099JosephParticipantHow does a bracha change on the same food, depending whether it is Pesach or not?
April 12, 2015 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #1072100lesschumrasParticipantJoseph, logic doesn’t apply To the practice of minhagim
April 12, 2015 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm #1072101JosephParticipantAre brachas a matter of minhag?
April 12, 2015 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #1072102takahmamashParticipantWhat’s the logic that the same matzah that is hamotzi on Pesach becomes mezonos when it isn’t Pesach?
The same logic that’s used to make peanuts and peanut oil kitniyot, even though they were fine in the 1960s and 70s. It’s not logic, it’s magic.
April 13, 2015 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #1072103WiseyParticipantJoseph: I think that the logic is that the mitzvah of maztah and the requirement to koveah seudah on it instead of chametz gives it a higher status as bread and therefore befitting a hamotzi.
The creation of minhagim is based on logic, it’s only the abolishment of a minhag which cannot be done using logic since once a minhag is established it becomes part of halachah (depending on the level and widespread acceptance of the minhag) like a takanas chazal and must be followed irregardless of whether the reason still applies.
