A proportionate response to Hamas, one might gather from the European scolds, would be as if the United States, after Pearl Harbor, would bomb just a few Japanese fishing boats and call it a day, believing the war would have ended with that.

When meeting that enemy, be proportionate.

Israel cannot win. Proportionate or disproporionate. No military ”victory” will end the endless violence that has continued from 1948 until today. There are a billion more cocaroaches where these Muslims come from.

    Only Tefila can do anything.

It is told that when the Steipler, zatzal, was asked about the invasion of Lebanon in 5742 he answered that it would require Urim v’Tumim to make such a decision. The situation then wasn’t so different, the north was getting bombarded constantly. Among other things, there is a question of balancing the likelihood of stopping the rockets from Gaza (which even the IDF admits is probably not likely to happen completely) against attacks like the one in Golders Green last week, may Hashem prevent them from escalating. Tefilla, tefilla, tefilla.

joseph, on a differnet thread, I agreed with a quotaiton you brought down from R”aharon Kotler zz’l, (see thread).

On this thread, I could not disgaree with you more. We just read , a few weeks ago, parshat Vajishlach and you know the Rashi as well as I. There are three ways to approach enemies and they include ALL. Doron- negotations, tefillah- prayer but ALSo milchomo. So, it is totally wrong to say that tefillah is the only way.

rob, perhaps, but such decisions are ill equipped when made by secular leaders who hold no value in the Torah.

I agree with the article – but hapitaron hayachid = Moshiach ben David! Let us show Hashem that Moshiach Now is not just a slogan!

dont we need a Moshiach ben Yosef first? (and i recently heard that Moshiach ben Yosef has to die al kiddush Hashem before Moshiach ben Dovid comes, anyone know anything about that?)

was this article published anywhere? It is so well written i think it should be spread to more news sources, including the UNintelligent and the NY times… maybe it will stop them from spreading political lies for one day…Reuters messed up again stating that Israeli soldiers were captured and killed when none were. Like the second lebanon war with that photoshopped picture. what a great track record for these people…

This article must be spread. Very well written!

Are you sure that Moshiach ben Yosef is a must? I learned that while of course there is mention of Moshiach ben Yosef in the Gemara, there is no mitzvah to believe in his coming as a predecessor to Moshiach ben Dovid.

In any case, since it is not clear how much time there must be between Moshiach ben Yosef and the final Geula, Moshiach ben Yosef may have been among the tzaddikim who died al kiddush Hashem during the Churban.

Thanks for your words of wisdom!! Way to go!!

Actually, Moashiach ben Yosef will come only if we aren’t deserving of having Mashiach ben Dovid coming first. If we’re not deserving, then Mashiach ben Yosef has to come and fight the huge battle, before being killed. Then, Mashiach ben Dovid can come.

If we’re deserving, Mashiach ben Dovid can come straight away.

Well-written and strong, this article really speaks to the real problem in the Middle East. IMO, there will never be peace there unless and until every last Muslim is out of E”Y, and more scared of Israel, than they are eager to show Israel who’s the boss.

Moshiach ben yosef has to come b/c just like shaul (binyomin) had to come b4 dovid i heard ben of yosef has to come b4 ben dovid (something to do with the children of rachel preceding, i look into it).

Response…response….response………..LEARNING IS THE ONLY RESPONSE. Wtvr the govt does is lev malachim uvsaarim b’yad hashem, so there is no right or wrong in what the govt does, however what we do makes all the difference!

Jonathon Mark writes for The Jewish Week, a Zionist liberal paper to say the least.

I applaud the editor for posting a good article here, no matter the source….

needing Moshiach ben Yosef before Moshiach ben David is comprable to refuah lifnei hamakah and needing tza’ar before tzohar
