Has anyone here on YWN been to, going to, born in, &/or currently living in the Holy land of Israel?
November 10, 2008 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #627005000646ParticipantIve been there.
November 10, 2008 11:23 pm at 11:23 pm #627006noitallmrParticipantYeah Iv’e been more then once. In fact I even had my Bar Mitzva there. Would recommend to every single Jew in thew world to visit. It is quite literally te land of Jews.
But nothing was i was told beforehand was enough to prepare me on my first visit to the Kosel. I’ve seen so many videos and pictures of it but that is nothing to actually being there. I felt a strong tug of emotion as you look up at the age- old stones that people have cried to for centuries…
November 10, 2008 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #627007teenagerMemberbeen there 17 times
November 10, 2008 11:31 pm at 11:31 pm #627008Will HillParticipantBorn in the Holy Land of Eretz Yisroel, currently Southern Lebanon, ruled by the benevolent government of Lebanon (unlike the heretic government of the State [calling itself Israel] next to Lebanon – that actually includes land [i.e. Arabah, Israel] that is not inside Eretz Yisroel).
November 10, 2008 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm #627009TruehonestyMemberI live in EY, in Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh.
November 11, 2008 12:13 am at 12:13 am #627010Ashrecha YisroelParticipantI’ve been to Eretz Yisroel a number of times. It’s a wonderful place. It’s actually much more than that.
November 11, 2008 2:04 am at 2:04 am #627011shindyMemberI lived in Israel for four years. I have been back to visit three times. I am looking forward to going again.
November 11, 2008 2:19 am at 2:19 am #627012halavaiMemberI was born in the U.S. but moved to E”Y shortly after getting married. We love it- you can literally feel the kedusha permeating every aspect of your life; we were just privileged to fulfill the mitzvah of shmittah by leaving our garden hefker and untended (also by buying produce that was imported from Europe and the States). The school system is far from perfect, but our children are way less materialistic and spoiled than my husband and I were growing up in the States. Yes, the medina gives us many tzoros. But without them, we would not be able to live here, or visit all the holy sites whenever we please. It’s a difficult life here- between parnossa, Arab terrorism, and the secularism that the gov keeps trying to force on us, but l’fum tzara agra. We would not trade the closeness we have achieved with Hashem by living here for anything. It’s a real shame that too many frum Jews conflate Medinat Yisrael with Eretz Yisrael…
November 11, 2008 8:04 am at 8:04 am #627013jewishfeminist02MemberI’ve visited three times- once on a summer program, once with family, and once with school- and am now living in E”Y for the year. I come back to the States in June.
November 11, 2008 10:22 am at 10:22 am #627014EttieMemberI also live in Eretz Yisrael. I came for sem and never left! Wouldn’t move back to America but visits to family are neccessary and enjoyable.
Yoshi- is there something you specifically want to know?
November 11, 2008 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm #627015RBS_gimmelParticipanthalavai: I don’t believe any of the <i>nochri</> fruits and veges during Shmitta were from Europe and the USA, but rather from Jordan.
But absolutely, since our move a year ago we also wouldn’t trade it for anything, despite some of the hardships.
We try to tell our story to others back in Chul, hopefully they’ll follow these footsteps and come back home too.
November 11, 2008 2:52 pm at 2:52 pm #627016EttieMemberkitzur_dot_net: most vegies did come from Jordan but the carrots came from Italy(at least the ones we bought). I was surprised when I saw the writing on the carrot packages.
November 11, 2008 3:10 pm at 3:10 pm #627017smartcookieMemberWas there once and since then, Im desperate to go again!!! Gotta save up a few thousand first!!!
Nothing like Eretz Yisrael!!
November 11, 2008 3:41 pm at 3:41 pm #627018yoshiMemberteenager- 17 times is quite impressive! You are one lucky person. Are you currently in Israel?
Will Hil -Lebanon, what’s it like being there? I’ve only seen it from afar.
Ettie- Nothing really specific, just curious, because if someone hasn’t been to Israel yet, they are surely missing out. Israel is such an amazing place. One can only fully fathom the awesomeness of Israel, by physically being there.
smartcookie- In total agreement with you!
As for me, I was born in Israel, moved away, then visited 3 times later on for seminary & college. Currently in the USA now.
November 11, 2008 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #627019teenagerMemberyoshi- yea thank God I have been so fortunate. No, right now I am stuck in America and not to happy bout it, but hopefully I will be back home soon
November 11, 2008 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #627020Pashuteh YidMemberWill, wow, I never realized that an Arab govt was more benevolent than our own Jewish govt in EY. Does this also refer to the benevolent govt of Hamas? What about the benevolent govt of Saudi Arabia which doesn’t even let Christians worship, let alone Jews? What about the benevolent Taliban govt which let the benevolent Osama bin Laden benevolently blow up the World Trade Center. The Arab world is a very benevolent place.
November 11, 2008 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #627021JosephParticipantPashuteh, there is NO Jewish gov’t in the Zionist State.
November 12, 2008 1:42 am at 1:42 am #627022mazal77ParticipantUnfortunately, never was there.
November 12, 2008 8:18 am at 8:18 am #627023jewishfeminist02MemberPlease clarify what you mean by this.
November 12, 2008 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #627024mamashtakahMemberWe (my family) made aliyah about 1 1/3 years ago, and have never been happier. We live in the Shomron.
December 8, 2008 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm #627025amichaiParticipantWhat do you want to know.
December 8, 2008 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #627026notpashutMemberLive in EY & love it.
For clarification of Joseph’s comment see Kovetz Ma’amarim (Ikvisa D’mishicha) from R’ Elchanan Wasserman HY”D
December 8, 2008 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #627027Pashuteh YidMemberNot pashut, that was written before the founding of the state, and probably before the holocaust in which Reb Elchonon ZTVKL perished, RL.
December 8, 2008 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #627028rabbiofberlinParticipantnotpashut-firstly- I did not have time to “post” anything these past days so I was not able to add any comments on the “hashkafic tie” post. NO, it was not another Shlomo z’l weekend although I wish I could daven kabollas shabbos every week with his nussach.
Secondly, this whole ridiculous argument about the State and government of Israel is getting rather stale. (will hill and joseph seem to be the main inerlocutors here, with assists from bogen and others)
I did learn “ikvesu demeshecha”, although it was a long time ago. Similarly , I learned a big part of “Vajoel moshe” (to assure joseph)but then, I have also learned Rav Teichtal’s sefer (Eim habonim semeicha) and I have learned extensive passages from Rav Kook’s seforim.I have also read and learned extensive writigns from many other Geedolim on this matter.
On a personal level, I have accepted Rav kook’s shittah and I think that events and historical developments have proven him right.
You , and others, are welcome to continue to quote whatever you want from the past, but the future and history will prove (or- disprove) who was right.
On different occasions, I have clashed with some of the “posters” on this issue. I find it very sterile discussion because:
1) most of the people commenting on this live in the US and have no input into Israeli lives
2) Many of them may very well be hypocritical because they benefit from the State-either with money or with security
3)The discussion has no way to be proven except by seeing how it develops.
So- good luck, members, on your arguments!
December 8, 2008 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #627029notpashutMemberPashuteh,
I’m well aware of that. I guess you haven’t read it.
December 8, 2008 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #627030JosephParticipantSorry Charlie; its still just as relevant as the day he wrote his holy words.
December 8, 2008 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #627031notpashutMemberrabbiofberlin,
Good to hear from you once again.
Once again I couldn’t disagree with you more but I feel bad hijacking another thread so if you want to continue this sterile (on that we agree) machlokes l’shem shomayim why don’t we step outside.
The thread, that is 🙂

Thank you for your understanding.
December 8, 2008 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #627035brooklyn19Participantwe’re gonna start setermining people’s ages by the amount of times they’ve been to israel, so watch out! 🙂
