Arrogance aside, do you think his ideals would make him a good president?
July 16, 2015 3:08 am at 3:08 am #1093138JosephParticipantHe has no chance of winning. If he were President he might be a good president. He did bring well deserved attention in the election to the problem of illegal aliens run amok.
July 16, 2015 4:41 am at 4:41 am #1093139👑RebYidd23ParticipantHe is a cruel person who would make a terrible president.
July 16, 2015 8:39 am at 8:39 am #1093140TheGoqParticipantArrogance aside, then there is nothing left.
July 16, 2015 10:34 am at 10:34 am #1093141RedlegParticipantThere is a certain attraction to the idea of having someone from the real world as President instead of a career politician. The last non-politician President we had was Eisenhower and he did a pretty good job. During his tenure the country was prosperous, at peace and committed to social justice. I Don’t know if Trump is the same kind of guy. Even a non-politician has to know when practice politics. It’s true that he’s a successful businessman but the difference is that the boss can tell his subordinates what to do what he wants them to do and that’s that. A politician has to convince his constituents to do the same thing. A President has to rule by consensus, not by fiat (something that the current occupant of the White House is still having trouble with). My feeling that is that Trump is not the guy we need.
NB. By non-politician I mean someone who held no other elective office before being elected President. Reagan was from the real world and also did a pretty good job. Carter was from the real world and did an execrable job. Both, however, held elective office before becoming President.
July 16, 2015 1:35 pm at 1:35 pm #1093142PosterMemberI acutally think he would make a great president.
He is not afraid to say the truth the way it is. He is confident enough with himself, hes not buttering anyone!
He says the truth about immigration, problems with the economy etc.
Hes a shrewd businessman that can hopefully get the economy back on its two feet. No arguing that Bloomberg was a great mayor. You actually need brains to be a leader and a lot of it.
Unfortuantly, I think he has zero chance of winning
July 16, 2015 1:58 pm at 1:58 pm #1093143yehudayonaParticipantThe Goq, you’re wrong. Arrogance aside, there’s the hair.
Haven’t several of his businesses gone bankrupt? How does that make him a successful businessman?
July 16, 2015 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm #1093144JosephParticipantHe didn’t become super-rich by being unsuccessful in business. He doesn’t own billion dollar properties around the world by being unsuccessful.
July 16, 2015 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm #1093145PosterMemberyehudayona, part of being successful is failing and being able to brush off the dust and start again.
The point is, now he is a success story. He knows hard work, he knows failure, and he knows success.
I think those are great qualifications for a president, especially one that has so much failure to build up.
July 16, 2015 3:56 pm at 3:56 pm #1093146akupermaParticipantWhile he has alienated a great many people since announcing he was running, he shouldn’t be totally ignored since:
1. He is the only one appealing to the “red meat” (secular right) Republicans (even though he has alienated the Tea Party and the Religious Right and the Country Clubbers)
2. He is in many ways more of a media celebrity who personna is a tough bully, but as a good actor, he may adjust to a new role, in this case, acting like a politiican. For example, without contradicting himself, he could come out for liberal immigration of law abiding Hispanics as long as they stay out of jail and don’t become a public charge. It depends who writes his lines. Good actors are very adaptable, and he is the only candidate with professional acting experience.
July 16, 2015 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #1093147mimzeeMemberwhy does everyone think he doesnt stand a chance? he’s #2 in republican polls? who does the world think is better? clinton?!!!
July 16, 2015 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm #1093148ubiquitinParticipantmimzee
Trump has equal chance at being president as you do.
It is unlikely that he will even be the republican nominee, though he has a slight chance at that.
“who does the world think is better? clinton?!!!”
Without question
July 16, 2015 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #1093150akupermaParticipantmimzee (who asked why he doesn’t have a chance):
1. Being #2 in the polls is less important than the fact he is apparently is no one’s #2 choice. His position on immigration (and his personal life) alienates the religious right. His views on economics alienate the Tea Party. His nativism alienates most non-WASPs (if you look who is running, they are mainly non-WASP). Based on his positions, it doesn’t like he’ll pick up many votes as candidate drop out – and their really isn’t anyone like him running – so the 20% he now has is the best he’ll ever have.
2. He’s basically an actor. The last actor to run was Ronald Reagan who learned how to “act” like a serious candidate – Trump hasn’t done that, yet. You win don’t win elections in an American style system by insulting people since unlike Israel with its proportional system, to win an American election you to get the support from the majority of the votes, not just a loyal base.
July 16, 2015 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #1093151JosephParticipantHis chance of being the nominee are about as close to zero as his chance of becoming President. He is a social liberal. And his support has a low ceiling. If it ever came down to him and one other candidate, the majority of the party would take the other candidate.
July 16, 2015 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #1093152PosterMember“You don’t win elections in an American style system by insulting people”
Everything he says is the absolute truth!!!!
We need a president that recognizes the truth!
July 16, 2015 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm #1093153mimzeeMemberposter, I couldnt agree more! It seems the world doesnt like hearing the truth. We need someone with backbone to stand up for what’s right. Not Clinton who just says what ppl. want to hear!
July 16, 2015 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #1093155👑RebYidd23ParticipantAre you Donald Trump? Because if you are, you are a pufflegrap and an idiot.
July 16, 2015 8:09 pm at 8:09 pm #1093156sushibagelMemberSaying everything as it is doesn’t make you truthful, it makes you an idiot.
Diplomacy and tact are requirements for this job.
July 16, 2015 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #1093157mimzeeMemberi guess it boils down to whats more important: tact vs backbone
July 16, 2015 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #1093158akupermaParticipantRemember that in America, you need over 50% of the votes to win – and America doesn’t consists of 50% nativist conservatives supporting corporate welfare. To win Trump, or anyone, of either party, has to appeal to his entire base and the independents and try to get some support from the other party — and insulting people doesn’t help.
July 16, 2015 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #1093159ubiquitinParticipantMimzee and Poster
Both of you claim everything Trump says is truth. his immigration comments were earlier mentioned so you mutve heard them
He said that most illegal immigrants ” have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re r…ists”
Note not some. Most
Do either of you believe thats true?
Furthermore Listen to him in action. Truth or not he is mentally unstable, most people can see through his “truth”
That said I am so excited for the debtates! Its going to be hilarious!
(anybody else suspicious thta Trump is a secret Democrat trying to destroy the GOP?)
July 16, 2015 9:38 pm at 9:38 pm #1093160sushibagelMemberTact and backbone are not mutually exclusive.
Tact and diplomacy are more than just niceties when you’re head of state. Diplomacy can spell the difference between war and peace (yes even nowadays).
A president needs to have the ability to know how stick to his principles whilst still using common sense. Obama doesn’t have it and neither does Trump. (Or maybe Obama doesn’t have principles and Trump doesn’t have sense)

Remember that in America, you need over 50% of the votes to win
not true, just ask gore and lieberman
July 17, 2015 1:01 am at 1:01 am #1093162JosephParticipantca: In 2000, Bush and Cheney received over 50% of the votes of the Electoral College. The popular vote is not used in presidential elections to determine the winner, bur rather the Electoral College is. And, besides, neither Bush nor Gore received 50% of the popular vote as both candidates received under 50%. Bush received 47.9% and Gore 48.4%. So by that token neither candidate “won” a majority.
July 17, 2015 1:42 am at 1:42 am #1093164charliehallParticipant” The last non-politician President we had was Eisenhower and he did a pretty good job”
Not in the Middle East. He threatened Israel with UN sanctions for not withdrawing from the Suez and Gaza in 1957 in exchange for…nothing. And he promoted alliances with Arab states that were hostile to Israel; one — Iraq — was in a state of hot war with Israel (and still is).

joe,
this is what akuperma said
Remember that in America, you need over 50% of the votes to win
when someone looks at that they think ballot votes
July 17, 2015 2:31 am at 2:31 am #1093167mimzeeMembersushibagel, Clinton may have tact & diplomacy but it ends there! There is more to running a country than that.
ubiquitin, akuperma, i do believe Trump addressed crucial issues affecting Americans. You have to admit he has a strong stance as opposed to all the other candidates that are afraid to voice a stance one way or another lest they offend anyone & lose their vote. (ie: clinton, jeb bush)
July 17, 2015 2:32 am at 2:32 am #1093168mimzeeMemberunless you think his tough persona is an act & he’s really a wimp
July 17, 2015 3:01 am at 3:01 am #1093169homerMemberA quick google search will show you that although he may not have held office previously, he is a baloney politician like the rest of them.
Trump was a DEMOCRAT ( that says a lot right there) and only became an R in 2009.He is flipping on everything from his opinion of Clinton (then: “she is wonderful, great” now: “she is terrible, the worst secretary of state ever”) to abortion (was pro choice {whatever that means} now is staunchly pro life), to toevah marriages. (his position is “evolving” 🙂 the last one to use that language was our great president). But at least its entertaining no? Another reminder what a golus we are in.

July 17, 2015 3:11 am at 3:11 am #1093170👑RebYidd23ParticipantClinton is also uncorruptable. Just like my old glass vase is unbreakable. (Already corrupt, already broken.)
July 17, 2015 5:37 am at 5:37 am #1093171yehudayonaParticipantGoogle “Trump University.”
July 17, 2015 6:18 am at 6:18 am #1093172RedlegParticipantCharlie, “pretty good” doesn’t mean perfect. Yes, his middle east policies leaned more toward the Arabs to Israel’s detriment. But Ike was elected President of the U.S, not President of Israel. His, and every other President’s job is to protect and advance the national interest of the U.S. Remember that was the hight of the Cold War. The object was to mitigate and minimize Soviet influence in the Middle East. If that meant a little tough love for Israel, that’s what had to happen.
American support for Israel has always been a problem for U.S. diplomacy. Any administration has had to walk a tight rope between support of Israel, which is not only popular in the U.S. and has some commercial and strategic value but seems to be a moral imperative to the U.S., and alienating an Arab world that holds 70% of the world’s proven oil reserves and has the spiritual leadership of a billion Muslims. It is to the everlasting credit of the U.S. that, while they may have had differences over the years, America has never abandoned Israel.
July 17, 2015 11:48 am at 11:48 am #1093174ubiquitinParticipantRedleg
America did abandon Israel in 56′ The fact that it was during the Cold War makes it worse not better, they took the side of their rivals The USSR against allies Britain and France in opposing Israel. You can say it was good foreign policy (It wasnt as it increased the Soviets presence in the mid east by getting Nasser to take the USSR side and support and he let the Soviets move in to Hungary at the same time, but that is way off topic) but it wasnt “never abandon[ing] Israel”
Mimzee
“unless you think his tough persona is an act & he’s really a wimp”
He is a nothing. He is a publicity hound who loves having his name in the limelight. He says what he must know is stupid but says it in a bullyish tough guy manner. Someone who says his big secret plan to defeat Isis is to “bomb them and take their oil” isnt a might sound tough but most of the populace recognizes that as just that: sounding tough, thats all it is a tough guy act.
Though you havent answered my question earlier you said he “speaks the truth” He said regardign illegal immigrants they ” have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime…”
Note not some. Most
Do you believe that is true?
July 17, 2015 11:58 am at 11:58 am #1093175JosephParticipantEvery illegal alien brings crime to America the moment he illegally crosses the border or overstays his (tourist) visa.
July 17, 2015 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #1093176yehudayonaParticipantJoseph, the kind of crimes that concern most people are violent crimes and crimes against property. To most people, overstaying a visa is about as significant as parking for three hours in a two hour zone.
July 17, 2015 1:37 pm at 1:37 pm #1093177JosephParticipantIllegally crossing the border is a felony and a serious crime that most people are concerned with and very much object to.
July 17, 2015 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #1093178ubiquitinParticipantJoseph
Not sure if that was directed to me, but that isnt what trump said and it wasnt my question.
Here it is again:
Trump said that most Illegal immigrants are briniging drugs and are rapists.
Do you beleive that is true
July 17, 2015 1:55 pm at 1:55 pm #1093179👑RebYidd23ParticipantMany illegal immigrants came here to escape persecution or to get a better life for their children. They probably should have been allowed to come here legally in the first place, but now they are illegal immigrants and are considered violent criminals just because of their immigration status.
July 17, 2015 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #1093180charliehallParticipant“now they are illegal immigrants and are considered violent criminals just because of their immigration status. “
They aren’t criminals at all. It is not a crime to be in the United States illegally. It is a civil violation, like a parking ticket.
July 17, 2015 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #1093181charliehallParticipant“It is not a crime to be in the United States illegally.”
There is one exception: When you have been previously deported. The Obama administration has aggressively prosecuted such cases. When I served on a federal grand jury six years ago, 80% of our indictments were such cases.
July 17, 2015 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #1093182mimzeeMemberubiquitin,
the story about the san fran girl who was shot by an illegal recently…
mexican druglord escaping from prison (to come here?)…
do you think these are isolated cases?
i dont argue the fact that many come here for a better life, though.
July 17, 2015 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #1093183mimzeeMemberclinton fans,
the iran deal is “a step” according to hillary. does that sound like someone who has a strong voice? scared to come out one way or another? by saying it’s a step it gives her leeway to back down & add terms & conditions if the public wants. spineless.
July 17, 2015 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #1093184sushibagelMemberThe drug Lords and robber barons like Carlos Slim enjoy a good life in Mexico the only reason they would come to the US would be to expand their operations.most illegal immigrants come to escape from a country where life is unbearable unless you belong to one of the classes mentioned above.
July 17, 2015 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #1093185JosephParticipantCharlie: It is a crime to cross the border illegally.

Those are VERY isolated cases.
Please note you (and poster and joseph) have STILL not aswered, do you believe most illegal imigrants are rapists?
July 17, 2015 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #1093187sushibagelMemberTo be fair he didn’t say most of them are rapists he said most of them are criminals including drug dealers, murderers and rapists.
July 17, 2015 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #1093188JosephParticipantTrump didn’t say “most” illegals are rapists and drug dealers. ubiquitin came up with that, not Trump.
Furthermore, the 1996 Immigration Act makes it a Federal crime to enter the U.S. illegally. Trump is correct that all illegal immigrants are criminals for having crossed the border illegally.
July 17, 2015 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #1093189yehudayonaParticipantMimzee, as proof that they’re isolated case, they made the news. Run of the mill stuff doesn’t dominate the headlines. Man bites dog and all that.

he said most, here is the quote verbatim
“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people!”
Ie “some” are good people most are not.(he assumes,he isnt sure in other words it is possible that not even “some” are good people)
He then stood by these words
