NevilleChaimBerlin: You remind me of the old joke ” whom do you believe, me or your own eyes?”. AviK brought down explicit sources for the hetter of an umbrella on Shabbos and you deny they exist. True, today, it has become acceptable not to use an umbrella or parasol but that is a chumro , accepted by the klal, not an halocho.
And you are totally wrong about ohel. We pasken there is NO din ohel by keilim, only mirabbonon in specific cases. Check it out.
July 6, 2016 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #1158714☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantROB, it is the p’sak of the Biur Halachah (the one I and Avi quoted) to asser.
He even has a tzad that according to some rishonim it could be d’Oraisa.
He concludes: ??? ??? ?????? ?? ????? ??”? ??? ????”? ??? ??? ????? ?”? ???? ?????? ?? ???? ????? ?????? ??? ???? ??? ???”? ??”? ????? ???? ???? ??? ???
Avi, the point of ????? ????? is that it attracts attention, so whether that issue to the noise or a different factor (being outdoors in public view) shouldn’t make a difference.

Actually, a more apt description is that Mr. Weiss just ignores halacha, period.
July 6, 2016 9:34 pm at 9:34 pm #1158716charliehallParticipant“obligatory minahim can spring up from the people”
Precisely. And they should be kept unless there is good reason not to keep them. Including kitniyot, bicycles and umbrellas. Just don’t pretend that this is something that it isn’t.
” Mr. Weiss just ignores halacha”
He is *Rabbi* Weiss.
And the person who ignores halachah is you. (Motzi shem ra.) Even Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, a huge opponent of Rabbi Weiss, agreed that Rabbi Weiss is a fully observant Jew.
July 6, 2016 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm #1158717zahavasdadParticipantRabbi Pruzansky is MO not Charedi. Many of the posters here do not follow him, they either follow Chassidic Rebbes if they are Chassidic or they follow the Yeshivish Rebbes from either Lakewood or people like Rav Kanivesky or Rav Shteinman
July 6, 2016 11:42 pm at 11:42 pm #1158718nishtdayngesheftParticipantCharlie,
You have not been so generous in your acceptance of R Pruzansky’s statements in the past.
There is no question that Avi Weis is now a ???? ?????? and no longer deserves the title Rabbi. He himself has stepped down from the position and is no longer welcome as a member in the largest MO rabbinic assembly. The IRF is an organization that causes ??????.
It is a mitzvah to belittle the actions of Avi Weiss which are so detrimental to yiddishkeit and Israel as well.
July 7, 2016 2:32 am at 2:32 am #1158719147ParticipantThe tile of this topic isn’t:- Is in the spirit of Shabbos to ride a bicycle. The question is whether it is permitted. Permitted yes. If g the question was about being i9n spirit of Shabbos, then this topic would be a very different answer.
Needless to say, all of this if no lights activated on bicycle, and if there is an Eiruv,
July 7, 2016 4:42 am at 4:42 am #1158720rabbiofberlinParticipantDaas Yochid: this is a useless discussion. It cannot be “midoiraisa” as we do not have an ohel by keilim. That said, I wrote that the world at large has accepted that we do not use an umbrella on shabbos-even an open one. Fine. Tis does not mean that all Poskim agreed to that or that there is no “tsad hetter”.
July 7, 2016 4:46 am at 4:46 am #1158721Avi KParticipant147, there is also a positive mitzva of shevita. Doing something not in the spirit of Shabbat is violating this mitzva.

Did you see the Biur Halachah?
Tis does not mean that all Poskim agreed to that or that there is no “tsad hetter”.
Is that your definition of a chumra – there was once historically a shittah l’hakel, so now even though the accepted psak is that it’s assur, it’s called a chumra?
July 7, 2016 11:12 am at 11:12 am #1158723Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantRoB: I never said anything about Avi K.

Correct. He is the Donald Trump of the frum world and makes as much sense.
“There is no question that Avi Weis is now a ???? ?????? and no longer deserves the title Rabbi.”
There is no question that you are now a baal motzi shem ra.
July 11, 2016 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #1158725iacisrmmaParticipantThe Shomer Shabbos Khilchisah (I think it is Perek Chaf Gimmel Siman Yud Zayin says a tricycle is muttar for a child but a bicycle is Assur). the sefer Tiltulei Shabbos quotes R’ Moshe Feinstein that it is assur due to Hotzoa as bicycles are ridden in Rshus Harabim.
July 11, 2016 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #1158726Avi KParticipantIacisrmma, what about if there is an eruv?
Charlie, Rabbi Pruzansky makes a great deal of sense. Unlike those who do avoda zara to secular liberalism. Not to mention those who give all the reasons in the world why Crooked Hillary should be indicted and then recommend not indicting her.
