It was spoken by the Geonim, the Rambam and countless other rabbis. Unlike Germanic Yiddish, it is also linguistically related to Semitic Hebrew

Because the world is round.
The moon stands on it’s endMay 29, 2019 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #1735293JosephParticipantLadino is holy. Arabic is not.
May 29, 2019 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #1735514Yabia OmerParticipantHow do you figure??
May 29, 2019 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #1735605It is Time for TruthParticipantJoseph,
Depends.
Possibly Ladino of the Me’am LoezMay 29, 2019 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #1735602lakewhutParticipantThere are different dialects of Arabic. Syriac is similar to Aramaic. I wouldn’t say the dialect dpoken in Morocco is holy.
May 29, 2019 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #1735645Yabia OmerParticipantSyriac is NOT a dialect of Arabic. It is more closely related to Aramaic. I would not say the dialect spoken in Morocco is holy either. Nor Syria, Egypt, Iraq etc.
May 29, 2019 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm #1735651lakewhutParticipantThen Arabic is not holy
May 29, 2019 9:47 pm at 9:47 pm #1735657ahgutvurtParticipantIf the sages speaking a language makes it holy than you need to consider others as well.Old french was spoken by Rashi and Tosafot does that make french holy? Also it was not Arabic per se but rather Judeo-Arabic that was spoken by the Jews of the Middle East and North Africa. Which like Yiddish included many Hebrew Aramaic terms.
As for Arabic being related to “Semitic Hebrew” So are many other languages. Would you say that
Tigrinya a Semitic language spoken by people of Eritrea is holy?May 29, 2019 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1735666Yabia OmerParticipantNo but I’d say that Arabic would be closer than Yiddish solely based on that. I think neither are holy.
May 29, 2019 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #1735673JosephParticipantAramaic and Judeo-Arabic are holy.
May 29, 2019 11:53 pm at 11:53 pm #1735694Frumshmurda718ParticipantIt’s a very beautiful language with many many words from Hebrew, I could list so many words are are from the same shoresh in Hebrew. So it might be
May 30, 2019 12:47 am at 12:47 am #1735703ahgutvurtParticipantYabia omer. The reasoning for those who say Yiddish is holy is because it has been “Judaized” i.e. it is a purely Jewish vernacular. Arabic on the other hand ,Semitic origin notwithstanding is a bonafide gentile tongue .
It is not the same.May 30, 2019 7:52 am at 7:52 am #1735734Yabia OmerParticipantNot accurate Ahg. There are Jewish dialects of Arabic.
May 30, 2019 8:21 am at 8:21 am #17357795ishParticipantSyriac is not similar to Aramaic. It is a dialect of Aramaic.
May 30, 2019 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #1736168ahgutvurtParticipantYabia Well you asked if “Arabic” is holy .Not the Jewish dialects of Arabic .
May 31, 2019 7:34 am at 7:34 am #1736216Yabia OmerParticipantCorrect. And I posit that even the Jewish dialects are not holy. Just like Yiddish is not holy.
May 31, 2019 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #1736373ahgutvurtParticipantYabia OK But if your argument was based on assuming that those who believe Yiddish is holy don’t believe that Judaeo Arabic or Ladino is holy and that this is an inconsistent position. Then you may have “built a house of cards” .Because they probably would consider those holy as well.
June 2, 2019 8:09 am at 8:09 am #1736459belgiumbullParticipantdear joseph hi
please help me understand the meaning of the word LADINO
thanks in advance
yours belgiumbullyJune 2, 2019 8:10 am at 8:10 am #1736468avreichamshlomoParticipantThis is how you waste your time? Having a pilpul discussion, not about a torah topic, but whether or not which one is closer to being holy, albeit none are holy?
What a waste of life
June 2, 2019 9:53 am at 9:53 am #1736550ubiquitinParticipantACS
I agree! can we revive your excellent torah topic thread on wars starting or ending every 28 years ?
That was much more productive
June 2, 2019 10:23 pm at 10:23 pm #1736901shpitzygoilemParticipantLoshon HaMeshugah.
June 3, 2019 12:38 am at 12:38 am #1736919avreichamshlomoParticipantUbiquitin, why dont you stop talking in shul? And before you say anything, just like cant talk during davening, you cant talk in shul at all.
June 3, 2019 3:47 am at 3:47 am #1736946ahgutvurtParticipantavreichamshlomo After reading through many of your posts in the coffee room I would simply say מום שבך אל תאמר לחברך . In fact if you were truly so holy and did not waste any of your own time you would not be browsing the coffee room .
Besides this topic does touch on hashkafadig issues, yet out of all the inane conversations on ywn coffee room you chose this one to get all self righteously angry about ? REALLY?June 5, 2019 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #1739193charliehallParticipantIf you burn the works of Rabbi Saadia Gaon, Rambam, or Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi, you will have to answer in Olam HaBa. Even though they were (mostly) written in Arabic.
