November 5, 2013 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #985424WolfishMusingsParticipantAh, okay. It’s the way to say “Shabbaton” when you are too frum to use such terms.

November 5, 2013 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #985425Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantNo…its a different thing. A shabboton is in a city, with speeches and uplifting, ussual where 2 schools that dont know each other join together and the girls make new friends. Our IS SOOOOI different! There is no kodesh to ours, staying up all night scting crazy on the holiest day of the week???? 1-2 speeches, mostly girls chatting, gossiping…is this kavod to shabbos?
November 5, 2013 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #985426streekgeekParticipantI had the same all 4 years of high school – going up to the mountains with the whole school for Shabbos. And yes, some girls stayed up all night texting, a few got drunk, but most actually grew from the speeches and workshops the school offered. It can either be a growing experience or the opposite. As with everything, it depends on how you take it.
November 5, 2013 9:47 pm at 9:47 pm #985427popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt isn’t kavod for camp to waste it on shabbos when you can’t do any of the stuff you came to camp to do.
November 6, 2013 1:31 am at 1:31 am #985428writersoulParticipantMy school does the same. We have a lot of speeches, but there’s also a lot of fun. I think it’s fair to say that everyone loves shabbaton :). No matter how wild and crazy everyone is, everyone still gets a lot out of it. To be honest, the same people who are ruining shabbos for themselves are probably the ones who would be doing so anyway even if they were not at the shabbaton.
November 6, 2013 2:30 pm at 2:30 pm #985429Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantStreekgeek, that was on SHABBOS??
November 6, 2013 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #985430streekgeekParticipantUmmmmm….yeh. Unfortunately. What writersoul said is so true. The ones who “ruin” Shabbos on the shabbaton are the ones that have a hard time with it in general. I’ve had both experiences – shabbatons that dragged me down so low, and shabbatons that were so uplifting and surreal. Everyone has what to gain from that Shabbos, YOU just have to be willing to go with open ears and an open heart.

What does it mean that “you heard it’s not kavod to Shabbos to do such a thing”? Kavod is a subjective concept most of the time, and one person’s sentiment doesn’t create a halacha. Whom did you hear it from? On what basis? What is your opinion?
November 6, 2013 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #985432golferParticipantStreetgeek, Texting???
Am I missing something here?
November 6, 2013 5:52 pm at 5:52 pm #985433streekgeekParticipantI feel like I’m the one missing something here. I’m sorry for exposing people to what has become reality, but yes, there are plenty of people I know who unfortunately do not see the beauty of Shabbos.
And btw – that’s streeKgeek, with a K…
November 6, 2013 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #985434golferParticipantMy apologies, streekgeek.
November 6, 2013 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm #985435Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantVM: i meant that was an opinion I heard and from streekgeeks perspective I totally understand….that IS SOOOOO sad!
