Now that Harvey is relatively gone where does the oilam think Irma will hit? How hard? How many states?
August 31, 2017 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #1352581🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantDidn’t even know there was an Irma

The forecast for next week – is Carribean Islands & then unto Puerto Rico.
“How hard?”
Right now Catergory 3. It could increase!
September 1, 2017 11:45 am at 11:45 am #1352889hujuParticipantWhen did the oilam become meteorologists? And why would you check with anyone other than a meteorologist?
September 1, 2017 12:02 pm at 12:02 pm #1352895Moshe1994ParticipantIt’s 10+ days before any potential impact, which means it’s virtually impossible to know where Irma will go. That said, the Computer models I have been looking at, the GFS, ECMWF etc have been trending towards an out to sea track. (I’ll try to update later)
September 2, 2017 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #1353179LightbriteParticipanthuju: Lol!!! So funny 🙂

Yea, I first learned about Irma through this thread. B’esrat Hashem she will fizzle away far out in ocean.September 2, 2017 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #1353181akupermaParticipantHurricanes have been around for as long as anyone knows. They apparently were so bad several hundred years that the American Indians didn’t live on the coast (which is why the first Europeans underestimated their population) and ships had to avoid transatlantic crossings during hurricane season. Hurricanes are not “news”.
September 3, 2017 12:25 am at 12:25 am #1353222LightbriteParticipantakuperma: That’s so COOL! Wow. I had no clue that Native Americans preferred to live inland (and did).
Oh yea, you just reminded me… even when Irma happens in the ocean, it affects humans on ships, including some current cruises.
I guess Europeans preferred the coasts because of trade routes, for one thing. Traveling wasn’t too easy back then too. Hmm.
Thanks for the lesson 🙂
September 4, 2017 7:25 am at 7:25 am #1354102☕️coffee addictParticipantSorry Moshe,
Updated forcasts have it hitting Florida
I suggest anyone on here living there prepare for one (it won’t hurt anyway)
September 4, 2017 9:20 am at 9:20 am #1354127lesschumrasParticipantAkuperma, I’m curious as to your source . Just looking at the NY area, Indian tribes occupied all of Long island and Manhattan Island, so clearly they didn’t avoid the coasts.
Indians also lived on all of the Caribbean islands.Everywhere the English landed, they encountered indians on the coasts. A special gift that the English and spanish brought did lead to depopulation of the Native American people. Smallpox.
It was the scourge of 17th century Europe and the indians, having never been exposed to it, had no resistance and were devastated.September 4, 2017 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #1354276LightbriteParticipantGranted it’s possible that some lived on the coast and others didn’t. Some lived near the coast perhaps, and maybe only seasonally.
It doesn’t have to be one way or another. Various opinionsay be accurate. Claiming all Native Americans as something is a great generalization.
Thank you
September 4, 2017 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #1354271LightbriteParticipantYes. Very true about the infectious diseases wiping out Native Americans.
Another rebuke…
When I learned about Native Americans, we were taught that they saw the sail boats headed for their land but since they had never before seen such ships (and it was beyond their comprehension to expect humans traveling towards them), they believed the ships to be sea creatures.
For weeks and possibly longer, Native Americans watched the ships, or sea creatures, approach land. —This information goes against the claim that Native Americans didn’t live on the coast.
September 4, 2017 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #1354499☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantThe title should have been “Hurricane Irma.”
September 4, 2017 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm #1354508LightbriteParticipantR4nd0m3x: Back when August 31st 2017 existed in the present moment, Irma could have approached the US as a Tropical Storm, or it could have dissipated completely before reaching a Hurricane Status high enough for its title to be used in the thread title.
If you would like, you are welcome to create a thread titled, “Hurricane Irma.”

Advice from a FL hurricane veteran:
EMPTY YOUR DISHWASHER AND PUT ANYTHING YOU WANT TO PRESERVE IN THERE. It’s waterproof and secured to cabinets so it’s more likely to survive a storm.

When your wall gets dislodged from your house and crashes into your neighbor’s living room, they’ll be able to read it then.
