    “geez…”

I have to say this – that word is a particular one that really should not be used by Jews, as it derives from the name jesus (yes, it really does, I am not making this up), and even the word “gee” or the expression “gee whiz” are from that as well. The name was often used as a curseword, and the abbreviated forms came into being as people stopped using the actual name to swear. There are people who even say “cheese and crackers” as a substitute for a stronger curse word. Just wanted to let you know, in case you didn’t.

This may not qualify as uncommon, but it is interesting.

The chart below lists which days of the week various yomim tovim and tanesim can fall out on.

There are four different types of years listed below, starting with the days Purim can fall out on.

This year is #2 (Purim on Tue, Pesach on Thu, Shavuos on Fri, etc.)

Purim Pesach	Shavuos	17th of Tamuz/	Rosh Hashanah/	Yom Kippur	Chanukah	10th of Teves	Tu BiShvat

Interesting and (Un)common fact: Potato kugel tastes much better on friday than it does on Shabbos 😉

Probably because the smell of fresh potato kugel baking is beyond belief. It is way stronger on Friday night, because it is usually right from the oven. Cholent is ebtter on Shabbos day than on Thursday or Friday, because it has the benefit of all night Shabbos cooked into it.

    Jax-

    Thank you.

I find it interesting, and it can also be useful in quickly seeing the number of vacation days needed for yomim tovim without going thru the entire calendar:

    1) 12 assur b’melocha days fall out on weekdays.

    2) 6

    3) 9

    4) 10

(Purim, Tisha B’Av and Hoshana Rabba, etc. are not included in the above numbers)

    mroosinsehry-

Uncommon knowledge: dogs smell fear. So if you are terrified of dogs and usually run by, you should walk calmly, but close your nose :). The next person I see doing that will be a real giveaway 😉

haha- I meant the person should hold his/her breath (close nose, mouth ears etc. ;);))

but then again- maybe your idea is better. Tell the owner to close the dog’s nose… not bad, not bad 😉

Or just say ‘Ulichal bnei yisroel…’. Works great without making yourself look like a fool in front of the owner of the dog whose busy smirking at you.

I believe jax was talking about the days of the week rosh hashana and pesach can not begin on. I think rosh hashana cannot begin on:

    A-first day of the week-Sunday

    D-fourth day of the week-Wednesday

    U-sixth day of the week-Friday

    Pesach cant begin on:

    B-second day of the week-Monday

    D-fourth day of the week-Wednesday

    U-sixth day of the week-Friday

(when you spell out the words adu and badu in alef-beis, it works)
