I am looking for information about the siyum hashas that was held in Bais Yaakov of Boro Park in 1968. The web isn’t very helpful. I sthere anyone out there who attended that siyum, or knows someone who did? I would like to know who spoke, and anything that was distinctive about the event. Thanks for any leads.

Wow – that was so long ago!
May 30, 2012 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #994443ItcheSrulikMemberI will be speaking to someone who was there today. I’ll ask if I remember. Please try to find some way to remind me.

oooh! Them’s are fighting words. So you’re assuming I was around then?! What chutzpah! How do you know I wasn’t born in the 70’s?
Now – try to wiggle ur way out of this one. 😉
May 30, 2012 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #994446avhabenParticipantSuch a young whippersnapper? A ’70’S baby?? Nahhhh, you know way too much. Was it the ’50’s?

Perhaps not all the hats were black and shirts white???
May 30, 2012 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #994448writer34MemberThank you, Itche Srulik. I would greatly appreciate any information or leads.
May 30, 2012 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #994449midwesternerParticipantI was around in ’68, but too young to have known what was happening. I do remember ’75 in the Midwestern community that I was living in at the time. Rav Dovid Lifschutz, the Suvalker Rav, came and spoke at that event.
May 30, 2012 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm #994450gefenParticipantAvhaben: hmmmmm. A compliment together with an insult. What? You thought maybe the insult wouldn’t be noticed?
compliment- “you know way too much” – I take that to mean I am sooo smart. 😉
insult- “was it the 50’s?” Hmph!!!! Thanks a bunch!! But ur WRONG. I guess I’ll just have to keep you in suspense. Oh well!
May 31, 2012 4:17 am at 4:17 am #994452writer34MemberDoes anyone have anything substantial to offer? As in information about the siyum, which was the point of this original question….
May 31, 2012 4:33 am at 4:33 am #994453gefenParticipantwriter34- I’m really sorry this thread got carried away. I hope you get some real answers to your question.

June 1, 2012 2:53 am at 2:53 am #994455147ParticipantI remember 1968 like yesterday. But I was so busy getting ready for the 1st landing on moon, the following year, that I forgot to go to the Siyum haShas.
I also was still too emotional from recapture of the Kossel 1 year earlier, to be able to concentrate on Yiddish speeches, so I didn’t bother attending.
June 1, 2012 4:21 am at 4:21 am #994456writer34MemberItcheSrulik, any chance you could still get the information?

Reb Yechezkel Abramsky, Reb Chaim Leib Shmulevitz, and the Gerrer Rebbe spoke at the 6th siyum. It also said the main Siyum in 1968 was in Yerushalayim and at that time the Daf yomi Commission of the Agudas Yisroel of America was trying to spread this idea in America.
