Are infected ears untreated dangerous, like if someone continues to wear fake earrings when they cant tolerate it just because they like it?
December 30, 2011 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #841041commonsenseParticipantprobably not a very smart thing to do. Wait until the infection goes away, wash the earring back with alcohol to kill germs and only wear the earrings for a few hours at a time. never sleep in them!
January 2, 2012 2:36 am at 2:36 am #841042HealthParticipantHey shlump – Who says they are infected? Maybe it’s an allergic reaction?
If most things just went away by themselves -we wouldn’t need med. professionals. Unfortunately they don’t -9 times out of 10 they get worse. So go see a medical professional.
January 2, 2012 2:43 am at 2:43 am #841043yoyaMemberyou don’t need to see a dr. right away for an infected earlobe from fake earings. if you just wear real earrings for the next few days it often goes away by itself. Talking from experience. If it doesn’t get better than get it checked out.
January 2, 2012 3:54 am at 3:54 am #841044HealthParticipantyoya -Yoya -Yoya-Yoya.
Yes you do; because who says it’s just an allergy and will go away by itself? Ever hear of an infection?
January 2, 2012 4:02 am at 4:02 am #841045yoyaMemberPeople often are convinced that every irritation is an infection when in reality it is not. I’m just saying that irritation on the earlobe often goes away by itself when wearing real earrings. It is not necessary to run to dr. e/ time earlobe is red and swollen. if after a few days of wearing real earrings, it is not resolved than it would probably be a good idea to see a dr. because it might be infected.
January 2, 2012 4:39 am at 4:39 am #841046HealthParticipantyoya -Talk about double talk -if you thought she has an allegy why use the term “infected”?
“dr. right away for an infected earlobe from fake earings.”
January 2, 2012 6:03 am at 6:03 am #841047aries2756ParticipantYoya, why would you wear any earrings at all if you have an irritation. Common sense would say to clean it and let it alone till it clears up. If it doesn’t clear up seek medical attention, but for sure don’t put anything else in, and don’t do anything that will irritate it further.
January 2, 2012 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #841048☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYoya, why would you wear any earrings at all if you have an irritation.
Because nose rings are not tznius.
Seriously, some are afraid of the hole closing up, and some just can’t imagine walking around without earrings.
January 2, 2012 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm #841049flowersParticipantfor infected earlobes, you clean it with alcohol and smear on bacitracin twice a day. That usually takes care of it.
January 2, 2012 3:04 pm at 3:04 pm #841050yentingyentaParticipanti do the same thing as yoya. fake earrings irritate my ears if i wear them longer than i guess 15-18 hours. solution? i put them in in the morning and take them out at night. next morning they are fine and i wear fake again. only when my lobes itch more than usual do i put gold in.
January 2, 2012 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #841051shlumpMemberyenting yenta–
i put them in the morning and also take out at night , but still my infection continues. I am afraid to leave them out since my ears close up very quickly and the earlobes are getting worse and worse. Im a little afraid to leave it, though i dont want to either take risk of closing them up! any more suggestions plz??
January 2, 2012 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #841052flowersParticipantSlump: I believe it’s not wise to continue to wear fake earings during the time your ears are infected. Put in real ones to keep them from closing. If your ears get infected again from fake ones after they are already healed then it’s really unwise to wear fake ones at all. I highly doubt any doctor will tell you it’s no big deal to keep on infecting your ears.
January 2, 2012 11:59 pm at 11:59 pm #841053yentingyentaParticipantfirst of all, DISCLAIMER. I AM NOT A DOCTOR.
second of all, i would say go to a doctor/dermatologist so he can look at it and tell you if it’s really infected, or if it just irritation from the metal. it could just be a nickel allergy. if you do feel the need to wear earrings, wear gold earrings. but i suggest very strongly to have a doctor look at it.
January 3, 2012 5:58 am at 5:58 am #841059aries2756ParticipantOK, here it is from a mother/grandmother and NOT a medical official. You are never supposed to wear fake earrings while your ears are still heeling from being pierced or until the piercing is at a point where they will NOT close up. You have to use either gold or surgical steel and you have to clean them with alcohol or peroxide before you put them in.
In addition, if these fake earrings are really cheap and made in China, you never know they may have lead in them, and then for sure you are causing yourself serious problems. Don’t look for trouble. If you are new at this go see your doctor, and don’t take chances until you know you are at a point where you can play around with earrings.
