A Gut Chodesh
My daughter will be in Eretz Yisroel in Seminary for the year. She is less than 18.
Student credit card, etc.
– I have bad credit and she never had any credit.
2)Can she become a user of my credit/debit card if she is less than 18?
3) Can she get her own credit/debit card if she is less than 18?
4) How do I avoid International Fees, ATM fees, etc.
Can she become a user of my credit/debit card?
Suggestions Please.

I’m sure other banks have the same thing. She can have a visa debit card and use that in Israel. She can pull money from any ATM there for a small fee.

I am sure they are allowed, but you might need to do certain things
August 27, 2012 12:34 pm at 12:34 pm #893172mutcheMemberhow about sendig her a checkbook, either yours – signed, or with her on the account and her checkbook, she can then cash the checks for a small fee at any moneychanger without having to go to a bank.
how about depositing $$$ into a family members american bank acount and they can give her the check from their account.
August 27, 2012 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm #893173OnlyTheTruthParticipantDid you hear of a gift card? That would be the easiest. If you dont want to bother with a bank account etc..
It’s usally a visa or master card etc… You buy it in the bank or I was told its even easier to get one at CVS Pharmacy. But I’m not sure you can add money to those. Walk in to a chase bank, thats where I got one last week, or ask at a cvs. TD also has it. A credit card account is enough to get the card in bank.
What they do is, they ad the cash to the card on the spot and you have a visa for as long as thier is cash in the card. when it becomes empty the card is garbage.

August 27, 2012 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm #893175bptParticipantYou can get her a job babysitting, so she will learn what they will not teach her in seminary:
Lack of a good education will spell a lifetime of less-than-glamorous job opportunities. Ditto for choosing a husband with the same lack of education. (another thing they will not teach her in the classroom)
August 27, 2012 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm #893176one yiddelMemberAmerican Express now has a service called “Serve”, which works kind of like PayPal, where you have a web account that you can easily link a bank acount/debit card/credit card to and transfer money to the account as you wish, free of charge. They send you a free serve card, which can be used to draw funds from this account, wherever AMEX is accepted.
I think the checkbook/moneychanger idea might be the best though since you don’t have to worry about where cards are accepted.

Open a joint account (brokerage and checking, but you don’t really have to use the brokerage part). Give her the ATM card. She can use it at any ATM. There are no fees and the exchange rate is good. You can transfer money from your bank account. The only downside is that the transfer takes a few days, so you have to plan ahead.
August 28, 2012 6:00 am at 6:00 am #893178haifagirlParticipantIt’s not always so easy to cash an American check.
The easiest way to do it is to open a separate account and give her an ATM card. Let her know you will put $X in each month and that is what she has available to spend.

August 28, 2012 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #893181Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantI don’t know, I didn’t see it, but if you showed it to me I would know what to answer next time…..
