This thread is so much fun!
Can I be Draco? I know I’m already Luna but Draco is my favorite character(aside from Luna and the golden trio)
January 30, 2013 1:10 am at 1:10 am #1115426OneOfManyParticipantyekke2: Ironically enough, ZeesKite was named Snape before the whole thingy. (See my original post on this thread, first link).
ZeesKite: As everyone involved is being rather cryptic about the whole affair, I don’t really have an opinion as to whether you are guilty or innocent. And though I can only speak for myself, I wouldn’t say the entire CR has been “swayed” against you – just that they don’t really know what to think.

Rowling wrote for children, Pratchett writes for adults. Getting a child to read anything in the electronic age is a Neis Nigleh.
February 1, 2013 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #1115454OneOfManyParticipantGetting a child to read anything in the electronic age is a Neis Nigleh.
It is if you show them that attitude. All my siblings and I were prolific readers from a young age, mostly because of our parents’ positive influence.

February 5, 2013 2:18 pm at 2:18 pm #1115466ChortkovParticipantI think I have found a contradiction in the books:
In book 6 we are told (twice) of the exceptions to Gamps Law of Elemental Transfiguration, one of them being Food. However in book 4, Mrs Weasley “slammed a large copper saucepan down on the kitchen table and began to wave her wand around inside it. A creamy sauce poured from the wand tip as she stirred”.
In Book 6, we see the “Aguamenti” Charm to create water. We also (4) see Olivander (when examining Harry’s wand) “made a fountain of wine shoot out of it”.
Dumbledore also manages to conjure “a dusty bottle and five glasses appear in midair. The bottle tipped and apoured a generous measure of honey-coloured liquid into each of the glasses… “Madam Rosmertas finest oak-matured mead”” (Although it could be he somehow summoned the mead from somewhere else, because he himself said it is Madam Rosmertas finest…)
In the Pensieve as well, in book 6, we see a younger Dumbledore having a meeting with “Mrs Cole”, and “her eyes fell upon a bottle of gin and two glasses that had certainly not been present a few seconds before”? (which sounds like Dumbledore conjured them)
February 5, 2013 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #1115467OneOfManyParticipantI’ve actually wondered about the first two examples…but the two with Dumbledore were probably some type of Summon, not elemental transfiguration.
February 5, 2013 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #1115468just my hapenceParticipantBigger question – how on earth could Quirrell have been teaching at Hogwarts before Harry came (and it’s mashma he’s been there a few years) given that in book 6 we discover the DADA job is cursed and no-one can have it for more than a year?
February 5, 2013 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm #1115469ChortkovParticipantAnother contradiction – In book 5, when the Inquisitional Squad are introduced, Malfoy docks points from Ernie McMillan, who protests that prefects cannot dock house points.
However, in Book 2, when Percy catches Ron in Myrtles Bathroom, he docks a point from Gryffindor. How does that work out?
(two possible answers – prefects can only dock points from their own house, which has a shtickle svara; could also be that prefects cannot dock points from other prefects, but can from regular students)
February 6, 2013 12:21 am at 12:21 am #1115470popa_bar_abbaParticipantWasn’t Percy head boy? Is that later?
February 6, 2013 5:51 am at 5:51 am #1115471☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMaybe there’s another girsa?
February 6, 2013 9:03 am at 9:03 am #1115472YW Moderator-42ModeratorI don’t think it says anywhere explicitly that Quirrel had been teaching before. It was mashma that way so it could be that he had taught there before but a different subject.
Another dochek terutz is that he just came back after taking off a few years and so only taught DADA one year at a time and not consecutively vdockek.
February 6, 2013 9:48 am at 9:48 am #1115473just my hapenceParticipant42 – he is introduced to Harry in the Leaky Cauldron as the current DADA teacher and Fred and George clearly refer to him as having taught the subject the previous year. Mareh mokom will be provided when I can get hold of a copy.
February 6, 2013 1:13 pm at 1:13 pm #1115474☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTrei amorai aliba d’Rowlings?
February 6, 2013 1:58 pm at 1:58 pm #1115475ChortkovParticipantPoppa – Percy only becomes Head Boy in the beginning of Book 3. He was only a prefect in book 2.
February 6, 2013 2:09 pm at 2:09 pm #1115476ChortkovParticipantIn The Deathly Hallows, Hermione accidentaly leads Yaxley into 12 Grimmauld Place. After this, the trio abandon the house, knowing that after Dumbledore’s death they were all secret keepers, and now Hermione had revealed it to Yaxley — “Even now, he could be bringing other Death Eaters in there by apparition.”
However, in Book 3 when Professor Flitwick explains the Fidelius Charm (secret keeper) he says it is “an immensly complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth imnpossible to find – unless, of course, teh secret-keeper chooses to divulge it. As long as the Secret-Keeper refused to speak, You-Know-Who could search the village where Lily and James were staying for years…”
— Apparently, it is only if the secret-keeper divulges it that one can know; even somebody to whom the secret keeper revealed it to cannot divulge. How, then, would Yaxley be able to show the other Death Eaters if he himself was not a Secret Keeper?
February 6, 2013 2:20 pm at 2:20 pm #1115477just my hapenceParticipantDaasYochid – unless there’s a chilfei girso’os between the English and American versions I’m not sure how we get two dei’os in whether or not Quirrell was already the DADA teacher or not…
February 6, 2013 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm #1115478🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantBook 1 has a contradiction within itself… On the acceptance letter it says that students are allowed a cat, owl, or toad. On the train we’re introduced to Scabbers, a rat.
