The Rav of the shule where I grew up, where I had my bar mitzvah and my ufruff, passed away today. Growing up, I could never imagine a world without him in it.

I have lost someone I truly admire, a Rav and talmud chacham, as well as a close friend of my late parents. My mesader kedushin. A Rav who knew how to answer questions from people in a way that the questioner would not be embarrassed. a Rav with patience. A Rav who made sure all the boys learned how to daven properly for the amud and how to lein. A Rav who pushed the shule board (and some very reluctant board members) for a NCSY chapter. How do we know he was successful? About 95% of the kids who were frum back then are still frum today, with frum families.

    ???? ??? ????

    Sending you heart energy.

I’m sorry for your loss takahmamash, which is also a loss for Klal Yisroel and. Your childhood rav sounds like an amazing and great neshamah. May his name be a blessing to us all.

May you find comfort with the mourners of Zion. ?

I’m not familiar with that part. Is it Randalstown?

What’s the name of his Shul? Not the same as Max’s Shul?

Very sorry to hear. I have heard of this Rabbi. His son, is well known as Rabbi Avi Shafran of Agudah fame. He wrote a book about his experiences in Siberia during WWII called “Fire, Ice, Air”.

The shule, which closed down several years ago, was Adath Yeshurun-Mogen Abraham. The building, which has since been torn down, was next to what is now Old Court Middle School. This was not Liberty Jewish Center, which was Rabbi Max’s shule.
