Mazel Tov. Unsure why that has to be on here! This is not meant to be a social media platform for news and simchas!!
Good job you cant post a picture on this like some of those other not very kosher/jewish websites!!!!

    #1809138

@poshiteryid since I’ve been posting on here since I’ve been 14 and was a very active user for many years. I would love to share my simcha with posters who have known and seen me for the past 7 years.

I haven’t been so active as of late so perhaps we are not so familiar with each other – but I’ve made friends on this platform and have had many many conversations with the posters here.

Trust me; I’m not bored enough to post this information on random forums around the world.

    My opinion, if anyone cares…
First off, I wish a hearty mazel tov to the kallah and the chosson and families involved.
Now, It is my belief that we have become weak minded when we feel the need to throw random Mazel Tovs to a person we never met, and we dont even know if they actually exist (in the form portrayed anyway).
Of course we do this (as I have above) to share and encourage in this persons simcha. And that IS a beautiful thing. However, there is another angle to this. What lunacy is it to have a bunch of random people who dont know one another congratulate each other in a way that you have no idea who is congratulating you?
Would someone stop a random person in the street and say “hey i’m engaged”? I daresay most people would consider this outside the realm of normal behavior. So why is it different to post such on an anonymous group chat of people you have no idea?
As evidence to this, look at the type of ridiculous comments that followed not long after. My point is, this is only possible in a world where the virtual has become the reality and socially becomes off.
Now to be clear. To the kallah who posted it, I am not criticizing you at all. You presumably posted it in a spurt of “i want to shout it to the world” feeling which IS, absolutely normal. My point is, that in a healthy world people would see that and say “wow, thats one excited kallah” and go on, because the venue isnt apropos. (akin to a person who just got their long awaited direct deposit from their boss while waiting in the bank and then shouting “yes”). Only in a world where people take the virtual as reality and their feelings would possibly be hurt by anonymous strangers not responding would the reaction of my fellow coffee room ‘posters’ have to post as they did. And for that, we cry.
[please make sure you understand what i’m getting at before you respond in indignant fury, thank you]

Chash… Obviously you’re new here. This place has been “home” to many peoples, all walks of life, for many a year. You may not know… this place – scratch that – this home has a long history. Some have moved out, (some have moved UP) some are still here. This place went through a LOT (putting it mildly), many cycles… ups and downs, right, left and mostly upside down! Many personalities, opinions, feelings, ideas and ideals. Each had what to offer… Every once and a while someone ‘from the old time’ would come by and leave another “I WAS HERE (AGAIN)” post in the form of another quip…

Though I may not “Know” my sister at the opposite side of the mechitza, a fitting Mazel Tov best wishes is surely proper. Family is family, no?!?

    #1809597

@chash I’m sorry you don’t understand. These aren’t random people. I posted a lot in the past and I’ve become friends with users here to the point that we’ve found ways of getting in touch through the coffee room (although it isn’t technically allowed).

These members aren’t random people to me (well some of the newer ones are) but others I’ve known for 7 years.

Also I do want to clarify the chosson posting is my chosson. He wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes.

While true that the posters here are Anonymous, many of us have been involved with this platform for about a decade. As Shopping pointed out, she sort of grew up with forum so, its perfectly appropriate to share the great news that she is on her way to getting married.

I haven’t posted in sbout a year and I came out of my early retirement to congratulate her.

    K?

@chash what’s the difference between this and pen pals? Writing letters to strangers as many did 20 years ago and becoming friends with them?

I have a few e-pals and some of them were also users on here too.
