I hate all you big fat jerks.
You all knew I learn daf yomi, and not one of you reshaim thought to tell me that daf yomi is skipping rosh hashana and learning yoma inexplicably. And now I’m 2 weeks into the wrong mesechta!
November 23, 2013 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm #1019661Torah613TorahParticipantI didn’t know either!
November 23, 2013 11:17 pm at 11:17 pm #1019662popa_bar_abbaParticipantFine, so you’re not a jerk. But the rest of you are!
November 23, 2013 11:21 pm at 11:21 pm #1019663cb1MemberPopa, I knew but i’ve been off the CR for so long that i forgot to tell you.
November 23, 2013 11:53 pm at 11:53 pm #1019664SaysMeMemberseriously, even in jest, the insults arent neccesary
November 24, 2013 12:10 am at 12:10 am #1019665☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBut not all of us are fat.
November 24, 2013 12:20 am at 12:20 am #1019666Jersey JewParticipantJust because you are an ahm haoretz…….
November 24, 2013 12:38 am at 12:38 am #1019667popa_bar_abbaParticipantActually, the insults are necessary, even if not in jest.
November 24, 2013 12:41 am at 12:41 am #1019668popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhose the am haaretz? The people who skipped rosh hashana? Or the people who learn in order like Hashem said to.
November 24, 2013 12:57 am at 12:57 am #1019669funnyboneParticipantIt’s an honor to know that you’re thinking of me… keep up the good work! I’m not even gonna tell you what comes next, hopefully you’ll still have me in your thoughts!
November 24, 2013 1:15 am at 1:15 am #1019670☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThen you’re not learning the wrong mesechta. Everyone else is.
November 24, 2013 1:19 am at 1:19 am #1019671WIYMember1. Most people here dont learn daf yomi.
2. This is not a valid reason to hate us.
3. Not all of us are big.
4. Not all of us are fat.
5. Not all of us are jerks.
6. I’m not at all insulted. I actually didn’t tell you on purpose.
November 24, 2013 1:39 am at 1:39 am #1019672writersoulParticipantGuys, he’s not talking to us. He’s talking to the big fat jerks.
In other words, if you’re insulted, then that says something about your self image, no?
November 24, 2013 2:30 am at 2:30 am #1019673🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantThe title thread describes my feelings exactly but not because of Daf Yomi. I guess I’m not quite so helig.
November 24, 2013 2:35 am at 2:35 am #1019674EnderParticipantI’m here to stand up on behalf of all of us “big fat jerks.”
Poppa, What ever happened to personal responsibility. It is not for others to teach you how to live your life. It is your job to educate yourself.
On a side note, do you live under a rock?
November 24, 2013 2:49 am at 2:49 am #1019675rationalfrummieMember“I’m learning the wrong mesechta”
no such thing.
November 24, 2013 2:51 am at 2:51 am #1019676popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo far, I’m talking to everyone but torah who wasn’t told either. I’m sorry if you didn’t think you were fat before.
November 24, 2013 3:28 am at 3:28 am #1019677funnyboneParticipantI knew I was fat before!
November 24, 2013 3:47 am at 3:47 am #1019678oot for lifeParticipantso why is it out of order?
November 24, 2013 3:50 am at 3:50 am #1019679HaLeiViParticipantPopa, the order of the Daf Yomi is just like the Seder Hamishnayos. Look at the Meforshim there for a reason.
My Tfilon app made the same mistake like you, so two great minds…
Anyhow, you’ll probably have more time on Chanuka to catch up. Now you see how important it is to Shmooze here about the Daf.
November 24, 2013 4:01 am at 4:01 am #1019680popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo, I don’t live under a rock. I interact with many people right here. How was I supposed to know they are all big fat jerks?
November 24, 2013 4:08 am at 4:08 am #1019681Mr SfardiParticipantPBA: YOU ARE THE BIG FAT JERK for not knowing that daf yomi is learning Yuma. In every shul there are a million signs about daf yomi. If you didnt know, than you are the problem. lol
November 24, 2013 4:20 am at 4:20 am #1019682writersoulParticipantPBA: There’s a logical inconsistency here. You say that you’re talking to everyone. You also say that everyone is a big fat jerk. I am one of everyone.
Fat, probably. Jerk, maybe. But I’m only 5’2″.
And I don’t learn daf yomi.
November 24, 2013 5:06 am at 5:06 am #1019683Little FroggieMemberWhat with such language? Someone (alleged to be) learning should express himself a bit more refined. I think.
November 24, 2013 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #1019684popa_bar_abbaParticipantWritersoul: the “big” is lashon sagi nahor
November 24, 2013 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #1019685OURtorahParticipantpopa- so what? theres no such thing as going off, just continue learning and then do yoma, you are bound to meet back up with everyone else one day. just be proud of your learning dont do it for the purpose of “finishing” do it for the purpose of learning.
and dont insult people.
your doing a beautiufl thing by learning gemora everyday.
November 24, 2013 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #1019686HaLeiViParticipantPopa doesn’t learn like the turtle; he learns like the hare. He runs ahead, takes a nap, and runs ahead again. Therefore, if he is in a different Masechta he can’t calculate how much to catch up, to be up to date.
November 24, 2013 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #1019687popa_bar_abbaParticipantlol thanks
November 24, 2013 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #1019688midwesternerParticipantI will take the jerk part as lashon sagi nahor as well.
November 24, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #1019689peacefullMemberAre you learning “Daf Yomi” or “The Daf”
If you’re learning Daf Yomi then you’re on schedule, but if you’re learning The Daf then you’re out of bounds. Since you didn’t know what’s The Daf then I guess you’re learning Daf Yomi, keep on going.
November 25, 2013 6:58 am at 6:58 am #1019690👑RebYidd23ParticipantThis thread is offensive to people with weight issues. They might not be jerks, but the phrase “big fat jerks” implies that a disproportionate number of overweight people are jerks in comparison to the rest of the population.
November 25, 2013 8:43 am at 8:43 am #1019692Shticky GuyParticipantWhat??? You seriously mean to tell us that you slept right thru the entire maseches rosh hashana??? You great big fat jerk!
November 25, 2013 11:43 am at 11:43 am #1019693SanityIsOverratedParticipantThis thread may also be offensive to those who view themselves as jerks. Vulnerable Narcissists in general have a hard time dealing with self image, and calling them fat may trigger an anxiety attack.
November 25, 2013 12:52 pm at 12:52 pm #1019694mobicoParticipantBig and fat? Popa bar Abba should be the last one to throw that particular stone (veha’Meivin Yavin).
November 25, 2013 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #1019695BoruchSchwartzParticipantwhy taka did they skip rosh hashona? do they normally do RH before yoma?
November 25, 2013 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #1019696popa_bar_abbaParticipantThis thread is offensive to big fat jerks who didn’t tell me they were skipping rosh hashana.
November 25, 2013 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm #1019697mobicoParticipantAs mentioned before, the order of Daf Yomi follows the order of the Mishnayos, not that of the printers of the Vilna Shas. While the order of the Gemara seems to make more sense, the order of the Mishanyos always goes from Masechtos with the most Perakim to Masechtos with the least number of Perakim, in descending order.
November 25, 2013 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #1019698👑RebYidd23ParticipantI was only half joking. In our society even the most prejudiced people don’t discriminate against or belittle other races, females ( if they’re male), people with disabilities, or people of certain colors (separate from race, including red hair), at least in public. But somehow it is perfectly acceptable to discriminate against overweight people and to mock them and call them names. It is offensive to overweight people when “fat” is used as an insult, because it implies that being “fat” reflects negatively enough on one’s character to be an insult.
November 25, 2013 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1019699BoruchSchwartzParticipantOh. So if the daf yomi always does yoma before RH we have no chiyuv to tell PBA. I thought that this time around they changed the order. We are all small, skinny, nice people.
November 25, 2013 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #1019700popa_bar_abbaParticipantFor the record. In the pejorative “big fat jerk”, the word big and fat are qualifying the word jerk. The alternative would be if it said “big, fat, jerk”, in which case the person would be all 3 of big, fat and a jerk.
Thus, it is saying that you are are very much of a jerk–not that you are a big fat person who is also a jerk.
HTH
November 25, 2013 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm #1019701golferParticipantCorrect, Little Fro,
Once again.
Perhaps you should consider a name change. A Frog is a creature of very limited brain function.
November 25, 2013 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #1019702apushatayidParticipantI take it you havent been to a seforim store in several weeks. just go to the daf yomi section to see what is currently on display. on the bright side, when they finish rosh hashana you will back on track, since you have a 2 week head start on that massechta.
November 25, 2013 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #1019703popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo I’m planning to change over at page 22 where both start the second perek respectively.
November 25, 2013 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #1019704HaLeiViParticipantSo then I am a skinny, big fat jerk, I guess.
November 25, 2013 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #1019705mobicoParticipantPersonally, I think that Popa bar Abba is the jerk. He’s the one jerking everyone else’s chain, after all.
November 25, 2013 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #1019706Little FroggieMemberThank you, Golfer, for that compliment.
(if my brain wouldn’t be limited, I’d probably be doing something constructive)
November 25, 2013 7:13 pm at 7:13 pm #1019707peacefullMember@ Halevi , you left out, you will then be short & skinny big fat jerk.
November 25, 2013 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #1019708Derech AgavParticipantwell truth is some of us dont do the daf we learn more than that or we dont have a chiyuv to so- but even so some of us knew that but you forgot to ask!
November 25, 2013 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #1019709HaLeiViParticipantActually, perhaps this is a good opportunity to thank The Frog for alerting me to the switch. I could have been like the turtle who took a nap.
November 25, 2013 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #1019710popa_bar_abbaParticipantForgot to ask? why would I think to ask? Do I ask if today is daf 17, or do I assume that since yesterday was 16 that today is in fact 17? (It is, of rosh hashana, and it said you will all be judged for not telling me)
