The Goq
These arent racist jokes, as the above posters arent making fun of Chinese people, but rather their language. Its still “begeder” good-natured fun until it becomes about Chinese people and their stereotypes.
January 10, 2012 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm #1064032Ken ZaynMemberThere is a Kosher Chinese restaurant in London with the fantastic name of Met Su Yan
January 10, 2012 3:26 pm at 3:26 pm #10640332qwertyParticipantThere is a place in Brooklyn called Sushi Mitushi.
It’s not kosher and anyway Jewish people wouldn’t want such sushi.
January 10, 2012 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #1064034TheGoqParticipantWiy so making fun of a language is not making fun of that people? i think you are wrong.
January 10, 2012 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #1064035vadimParticipantCrooked Businessman (So Su Mi)
January 10, 2012 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #1064036WIYMemberThe Goq
Making fun of people or their accent is racist. Making fun of a language isn’t racist. When making fun of the language like in the above jokes the humor is impersonal and harmless. Listen you can disagree but if you look over the above jokes they are very innocent and I don’t see why anyone would feel insulted by them. Again we aren’t making fun of Chinese people.
Google the word racist and see if the definition fits your belief.
January 10, 2012 5:59 pm at 5:59 pm #1064037Imma613ParticipantWill someone please explain the meaning of “Fang Un Fun Unfang”
January 10, 2012 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #1064038Working on itParticipantI have seen a restaurant called Suun Fat – not for dieters.
How about these:
Be quiet – Wai Yu Toh-King
Oh my – Ho Lee Kow
I was in an accident – Ding Mai Ka
January 10, 2012 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #1064039ha ha ha haMemberHaving fun with a langage is the safest fun you can have as your not making fun of anyone!!!
sorry Goq your way off on this one!!
January 10, 2012 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #1064040a maminParticipantImma 613: its Yiddish it means start from the beginning.
January 10, 2012 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #1064041Aishes ChayilParticipantWhy is a chineese phone book so complicated?
There are so many ‘Wing Wongs’, you might WING THE WONG NUMBER!!
January 10, 2012 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #1064042TheGoqParticipantSo now you make fun of their language tomorrow you will say that they all are bad drivers why start down this path? If people would make jokes with the hebrew language you would not take offense?
If it is not racist it is certainly insensitive.
January 10, 2012 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm #1064043feivelParticipanti see no reason to take offense at any of the above jokes. no one is being made fun of
however this one you can take offense at:
Q: Who told you that?
A: Sum Dum Goi
January 10, 2012 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #1064044apushatayidParticipantI hate explaining jokes.
“Fang Un Fun Unfang” Think yiddish instead of english.
January 10, 2012 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #1064045Shticky GuyParticipantImma613 it is translated in the above post. It means start at the beginning. It just sounds a little chinese. The other phrazes are also translated. Check out the Favorite Yiddish Words thread for some more great sounding words!
January 10, 2012 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #1064046YonibeeMemberHow about what Haman’s friends and relatives said (Hung Wung gai)
January 10, 2012 10:24 pm at 10:24 pm #1064047Pretty good indeed… and harmless…
Personally I like imitating various accents. In English my French, German and Italian accents are quite good and in Ivrit, I like the Russian, Ethopian, French-Moroccan and American ones. Picked up some of these at work (by sitting next to a bunch of French-Moroccans for 3 years, for example).
January 10, 2012 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #1064048WIYMemberThe Goq
On this thread you are the only one who said anything derogatory about Chinese people. Please dont make an issue where there isnt one. These jokes are INNOCENT.
January 10, 2012 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm #1064049ED IT ORParticipantthe goq, are they really such bad drivers?
January 10, 2012 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm #1064050shuliParticipantchinese people are wonderful! if not for them, what would you call your good plates?
January 11, 2012 3:36 am at 3:36 am #1064051TheGoqParticipantFor the record i dont think they are bad drivers i was just using that as an example of anti Chinese sentiment, i think it is a slippery slope here we are just having some fun with their language tomorrow who knows why start down this road i guarantee you if someone of Chinese descent read this thread they would be offended and not by me. For people who are always on guard for any anti-semetic language we should be doubly sensitive with regards to how we express ourselves with regards to other cultures.
January 11, 2012 5:18 am at 5:18 am #10640522qwertyParticipantGoq,
I hear where you are coming from but i think the difference is that Asian language can be spoken by anyone from any country/culture/religion. So when we make these jokes we aren’t making fun of any particular type of people.
The same way we make fun of English language with jokes like:
You park in a driveway and drive on a parkway.
Your nose may run and your feet may smell.
If con is the opposite of pro then what’s opposite of congress?
Frosted Flakes have frosting, but pitted prunes Dont have pits.
When I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this post, I end it.
Sincerely,
Sam Ting
January 11, 2012 7:57 am at 7:57 am #1064053babygooseParticipantsungha wong and fung wong had a little baby boy. the doctor showed them the baby – who had no resemblance to asians, and didn’t share any of their features. he was fare skinned, with normal features.
mr. wong looks at Mrs. wong and says: “listen honey, Two Wongs don’t make a White” so the named him – som ting wong
January 11, 2012 12:19 pm at 12:19 pm #1064054ZeligerMemberGreat lines exeryone.. I don’t find it offensive at all – Its just a way of using their language to make clever remarks.. I don’y believe it will lead to anything more. It is not a discussion about Chinese people it is just a discussion using their language
January 15, 2012 6:09 am at 6:09 am #1064055TheGoqParticipantVery interesting an advertiser on this website is using the term benefit auction instead of chinese auction way to go!!

I have no problem of people making (these kind of clean) jokes from Yiddish.
