February 25, 2011 3:17 am at 3:17 am #746899deiyezoogerMemberthere is alot of work involved in baking and preparing cupcakes, but at the end, when you take only one cupcake to eat you don’t have to feel bad that you had to much calories of cake intake in your body. get it? and for snack for the kids,it’s perfect size to,and not to forget homemade! they love that part of it.
February 25, 2011 4:22 am at 4:22 am #746900OfcourseMemberobservanteen, you make Babka and you’re a teen? Wow, I know middle aged women that dont know how to make Babka, with yeast, rising, etc. How old were you when you learned? How did it come out? Can you provide the recipe and tips?
February 25, 2011 5:48 am at 5:48 am #746901observanteenMemberOfCourse: Yeah. Tried it for the first time today, and everyone LOVED it!!! YUM!!! (Oh, OF COURSE I didn’t eat any of it. I’M ON A DIET… UGH!)
I got the recipe from the Nitra Cookbook and followed the instructions. I LOVE TO BAKE!!
(There was some extra dough, so I made rugalach too… sooo much fun!)

Although judging from other posters names (like mbachur), maybe your name comes from when you were a teenager but you havent changed it now that you’re out of your teens. However, if you did it cos your mom’s sick in bed then 1st of all refuah shleima to her, and 2nd of all good on you however old you may be.

Not cupcakes per se, but I love to cook and bake.
I actually had the ability to be mafrish challah for the first time in my life a few months back when I was made challah for Shabbos.
I personally get a great feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment whenever I cook something and people like it. I wish I had the chance to cook more often than I currently do.

February 25, 2011 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #746906Just one thingMemberMay I ask how do you make Vodka?
February 25, 2011 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #746907bptParticipantAnything you make from scratch gives you a sense of accomplishment. Plus, its a whole lot healthier than things you buy in a store. One thing, though; call them muffins. Its sounds my adult-oriented, and more heathful.
(no offense to yummy cupcake!)
Home made Vodka? I just saw a reciepe for homemade alchohol in this week’s Ami. It said to add a teaspoon of yeast (the baking kind) to a 1/2 gallon of water, a nice ammt of sugar (it did not say how much, so I’d guess a cup)and “flavoring” (they suggested coffee, cocoa, or lemon).
Let stand for 2 weeks, and it should be drinkable. But what would I add to give it scotch or bourbon flavor? Any ideas?
February 25, 2011 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #746908popa_bar_abbaParticipantOne easy way to make moonshine is to buy a bottle of apple cider, put in live yeast and sugar, and leave it on the back porch for a few weeks.
February 25, 2011 9:12 pm at 9:12 pm #746909Just one thingMemberwhere do you buy live yeast?

Any other women here hate to cook?
February 25, 2011 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #746912popa_bar_abbaParticipantAny other women here hate to cook?
“Hate” is a strong word. I only use it for people I don’t like.
February 25, 2011 9:33 pm at 9:33 pm #746913oomisParticipantCupcakes are not hard to make, just hard to put into the cupcake holders. I use an icecream scoop, measures perfectly every time. You can basically use any layer cake or 9×13 cake recipe and use it for cupcakes. Just bake for less time than a cake would need.
March 3, 2011 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #746914observanteenMemberDuh. I baked rugalach and it flopped:( I used oil instead of margarine. Agggrrrr. I had to drink a coffee and eat some chocolate to get over it. How dumb! Oh, well. I think I should post it in the “How do you get out of a bad mood” thread. I am in a good mood but a bit dissapointed I guess…..
March 4, 2011 2:09 am at 2:09 am #746915deiyezoogerMemberdont let yourself down, do you know how many times the top bakers flopped on the way getting to the top? The only people who never fail are those who never try!!
March 4, 2011 2:33 am at 2:33 am #746916tomim tihyeMemberIf it came out bad, I wasted time and money. If it came out good, I ate it. I don’t bake anymore.
March 4, 2011 5:28 am at 5:28 am #746917observanteenMemberThanks. I just finished baking a coffee cake. Hope THAT doesn’t flop.
