I hate bees. What do you do to keep them out of your Sukkah?

I remember the bees on sukkot in NY! Ah don’t have that problem anymore. Now all I have to worry about is the HUGE thunderstorms every night!

Have a jar of beer in the garden – that will attract the bees so they stay out of the Sukka!

We put a little bit of meat and some apple juice in a bee trap. It usually works. Like we only get one a meal instead of swarms.

Since we put up the sign (in big clear letters)

No bees allowed, so Buzz off!!!

    We haven’t had any problems.

We also keep our honey jar closed.

Jax: You also think history and geography are the same thing? Everyone knows Ireland is part of Europe! Maybe your small town in Central Ireland seceded and swam away? 😉

there are like ten posts here and maybe 2 of them give a solution to the issue. the other 8 are either bad jokes or information no one cares about. if you want to babble gibberish do it somewhere else.

post, your new here and you got it all wrong. This is what the CR is all about. You’ll just have to make peace with the situation if you want to continue enjoying your stay here.

I spray Raid on the sukkah walls where the schach ends rest and around any openings before going to shul in the morning; seems to work.

Oh, that’s good. BH we never really had any issues in the past, but its a good idea to keep in mind.

I think those bee traps that are being sold are Tzaar L’baalei chaim. Unless the bees are killed immediately, not a problem, but those traps prolong their suffering. Maybe get those zappers.

If the bee traps were assur (tzaar baal chaim), then why would any of the Judaica shops be selling them? There is a halacha that if someone comes to kill you, you should get up and kill them first. In my family, many of us are highly allergic to bee stings, my husband and my son in particular. We are not supposed to kill them on Shabbos and Yom tov, so it seems a fair compromise to let them wander in to the traps. After all, they just as easily might NOT wander in, they only go in because they are greedy. (I wrote this slightly tongue in cheek, so don’t all get upset).

We do several applications of raid and various traps. We also make sure my epipen is well within reach, just in case.

The epi pen is a GREAT idea. My husband ended up in the hospital as a child when he was stung.
