I only said it once, even though I initially forgot vi’sain bracha. However, I caught on to my mistake (thanks to the guy davening next to me LOUDLY whispering “vi’sain bracha!”) and inserted it during shema koleinu.

But I wouldn’t advise that anyone follow anything I do l’halacha.

Popa – You must daven Nusach S’fard, otherwise you’d hold out only three fingers.

“Remember to count Sefira, especially the women out there who do not go to maariv”

It is preferable that S’fardic women not count the omer. Most Ashkenazic poskim rule that women may count while they are not required to do so.

Bar Shattya – “health- you forgot to say atah chonantanu”

Either you don’t know how to read or how to count.

Let’s see if you’re davening Nusach Ashkenaz – Don’t say Morid Hatal so nothing to count. 1. Atah Chonantanu. 2. V’Sain Berocha

    3. Yaleh V’Yawvoh

sorry buddy, you’ve got either two or four. if you want to count v’sain bracha it works exactly the same as l’hoshia mechalkel. Personally i suggest we count them both seeing as you have to repeat shmoneh esray for the lack of either omission.

Um. I didn’t know this was going to cause an issue.

    I daven ashkenaz.

I used a finger to remember to

    1. not say mashiv haruach

    2. say attah chonantanu (figured I may as well, once I’m doing fingers.)

    3. not say tal umatar

    4. say yaaleh vyavo.

I could possibly have used a 5th finger, to remember to say chag hamatzos in yaaleh vyavo, instead of rosh chodesh.

Only once that counted. The first one I wasn’t yotzei so it didn’t count. So the answer to this question can be either zero or one.

Once, and this includes my saying 2 Kaddishim on the Ommud + 2 mourner’s Kaddishim, each only recited once, getting “L’Eilo L’Eilo MiKol” correct 1st time around each time.

But I shan’t have to worry about saying L’Eilo twice by mistake after Yom Kippur, as I am terminating my 11 months of saying Kaddish in the middle of the Asseres y’Mei Teshuoh.

On a more lamdusheh note; why do some poskim hold you do NOT need to repeat shmoneh esre if you don’t have any kavanah during the first brachah (even though lehalacha you would need to repeat davening) because we say it’s not guaranteed you will have kavanah the second time around either, yet on the other hand we say you DO need to repeat shmoneh esre if you forget certain additions. Who’s to say that you won’t space out and forget them the second time around, too? Same Svarah, Different Davening…

Curiosity: Different S’vara. The Poskim say that it’s almost a given that you won’t have Kavana anyway. But here, we see that most of the time most people get it right.

This year I only held out 3 fingers. I didn’t hold one out for attah chonantanu. Then I wondered why I wasn’t, and while I was wondering, I got up to there, and said it.

Only once. But it helped that the rabbi announced immediately before the shemoneh esrei the four changes in the tefillah!

I always thought about highlighting either v’sein bracha or v’sein tal umatar, and I figured the bright yellow would make me think each time I said it, and remind me of what I’m supposed to say. But I never did it. And I haven’t messed up once this year! Of course, the machzor helps by not even giving me the choice to say the wrong thing. But I have to be looking in the machzor for that to work.

I remembered to say melech oheiv tzedaka umpishpat rather than hamelech hamishpat tonight.

I also remembered to say v’lamalshinim. I’ll let popa_bar_abba tell us about all the special kavanos one should have during that bracha.

    Helpful Hint:

If you say 诪讜专讬讚 讛讟诇 during the summer months, it helps a lot to prevent forgetting.

If definitely helps during the winter:

    1. If you start saying 诪讜专讬讚 讛讟诇, you are likely to remember to say 诪砖讬讘 讛专讜讞.
    2. Even if you forget, you don’t have to repeat.

In the summer, it is also a bit helpful, although less so. When I accidentally say 诪砖讬讘 讛专讜讞, I remember right away that I am supposed to be saying 诪讜专讬讚 讛讟诇, so even though I still have to go back, at least I don’t have to go that far back. And it is really unlikely that I’d forget the second time.

Please note: The minhag in EY (for both Ashkenazim and Sephardim) and for Sephardim everywhere is to say 诪讜专讬讚 讛讟诇 whenever we don’t say 诪砖讬讘 讛专讜讞.

This is not generally the minhag for Ashkenazim in chu”l. But I think it’s possible that they may be allowed to if they want to, so imho, it’s kidai to ask a sheilah to find out if you are allowed to, for the above reasons, especially if you find that you often forget.

BH I didn’t have to repeat it any times! I think that was a first for me.
LU, Chaim Berliners (who daven ashkenaz) actually do say 诪讜专讬讚 讛讟诇 (I really hope those don’t turn into question marks!).
