What should i do if my teenage daughters don’t want to Pesach clean. They procrastinate for a while and when they finally do it their half hearted about it. And even my teenage sons don’t like to help. How can we uplift the atmosphere in my house?

Reward them for a good job.

It’s not their responsibility; they don’t own the house.

In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
    The job’s a game

    And every task you undertake
    Becomes a piece of cake
A lark! A spree! It’s very clear to see that

A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    The medicine go down-wown
    The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    In a most delightful way

    A robin feathering his nest
Has very little time to rest
While gathering his bits of twine and twig
Though quite intent in his pursuit
He has a merry tune to toot
He knows a song will move the job along – for

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    The medicine go down-wown
    The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    In a most delightful way

The honey bee that fetch the nectar
From the flowers to the comb
Never tire of ever buzzing to and fro
Because they take a little nip
From every flower that they sip
    And hence (And hence),
    They find (They find)
Their task is not a grind.

    Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h ah!

A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    The medicine go down-wown
    The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
    In a most delightful way

Put on some music set timer for two hours and let them pick a restaurant to go eat out after!!!

    Crank up the music.
Cleaning is drudgery, it is not supposed to be fun,
    Your kids have normal reactions.
Just remind them that they are part of the family and expected to do their share of the work. No work, no eat, no spending money, no use of the car, etc.

attitude starts at the top. What is your attitude? Do you take time to bond while cleaning?

cholentandkugel – One year when the teens didn’t want to peel potatoes for the potato kugel,I said no problemo. When the seuda came, I served them each a whole unpeeled potato with a raw egg in shell. That’s your potato kugel! From then on, they peel!

You are responsible for your children, not the other way around.

Since this is about fun… here are some fun tongue and cheek thoughts to make cleaning and prep a little easier. Not in any particular order:
    1) Hire a cleaning crew…
    2) Retain a personal chef…
    3) Find heteirim…
    4) Relax your standards…
    5) Eat gebrokts…
    6) Eat kitnios…
    7) Eat chometz… shhhhh, just don’t tell…
    8) Start cleaning and prep around Chanukah time when they start baking the matzos in the bakeries and tackle it bit by bit…
    9) Go away for Pesach…
    10) … and as a last resort… threaten to take away the kids phones and other digital devices…

Put small single serve bowls of cheerios in the drawers of your children’s room and say you know there is chametz there.tell them they will be able to throw them into the fire when the chametz is burnt.
